Some characters are simply a bit more plain than others. And other characters get hit with the ugly stick pretty hard. Since this isn’t really something you would think about (or see often in the community), let’s take a look at who the ugliest characters are in all of anime. Say it with me: I’m ugly and I’m proud!
25. Gordon Agrippa
Anime: Black Clover I feel bad for putting this character on here, as he’s quite likable and sympathetic, but he is just not doing himself any favors. If you’re going to go for that Marilyn Manson vibe, you really need the backbone to back it up. But being that he’s quiet, only speaking through mumbled sounds, and that he uses curses of all things, his look definitely comes off as weird and terrifying moreso than badass and unique. Especially if he ever takes a family photo. That would just look beyond bizarre.
24. Kouji Kouda
Anime: My Hero Academia To this day I will never understand how this guy got into U.A. I also don’t fully understand why he looks like a frightened rock. Quirks sometimes change your appearance, like Tokoyami’s, but it usually compliments your power in some way. How exactly being a tall tofu blob helps him talk to animals, I have no idea. But at least he’s a nice guy. Plus, he has bunnies. So I doubt he will have troubles in the dating world.
23. Biwamaru
Anime: Dororo Age gets to us all. And while it turns some into refined gentlemen and gorgeous mistresses, it turns others into troll looking hunks of meat. I love my boy Biwamaru. But he looks like he was beaten with a metal bat over the head and back, and then tossed into a jungle for ten years. His body just got so out of shape that it’s hard to even imagine a time when he was a fine-looking young fellow. Nobody would ever tell him these things in person though, as the old man still has more than enough bite in him to break a few dozen bones.
22. Suika
Anime: Dr. Stone This is a weird one, as Suika is the most adorable ugly character ever. You see, in the modern age, Suika would have been prime kawaii real estate. However in the stone age, that isn’t quite the case. Since she has difficulties seeing clearly whenever she takes off her trusty helmet, she has to squint really hard to see anything. And trust me, her squinting face quickly makes you realize why she adopted the melon in the first place.
21. Babidi
Anime: Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Z is ruthless in how they draw the villains. As they definitely preceded the hot, bad boy, devil antagonist archetype. I mean just look at Babidi. He looks like a combination of a rotting bean, a catfish, and a fly. He has every attribute a man fears: he’s short, basically bald, scrawny, and orange, I guess. The fact that his eyes look like they would pop out of his head with a good smack is also not helping his case.
20. Bonolenov Ndongo
Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011) Whenever a character covers their entire body head to toe, they’re either extremely hot or extremely ugly. Our friend Bonolenov definitely falls into that latter category. This is because the second he takes off those bandages, we see a few things; he’s completely hairless, a lot of his teeth are missing, he’s skin and bones, and most importantly, he is literally built like a flute. As in giant chunks of his body are missing. There’s also just something terrifying about his eyes.
19. Hand Demon
Anime: Demon Slayer Let’s be honest here: most of the demons in Demon Slayer are lowkey extremely hot. That is, until we come to the Hand Demon. This thing, besides looking like Shigaraki Tomura on steroids, is just unnerving to look at. Maybe it’s because of the dozens of hands and arms wrapping his body, or because we’re used to his voice being connected to a much sexier man, that is in fact a JoJo’s reference, but he just gives me the heebie-jeebies.
18. Ekaterina and Elizabeth
Anime: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic I want to put these two together, as they were played for the same gag and basically have the same face. You know, after Interspecies Reviewers I thought that nothing coming out of a brothel could surprise me. And yet here I stand corrected. The fact that these two worked in two different pleasure houses and for different influential people means that they must have mastered the craft or something. Because I don’t see a world where they get this kind of attention for their looks.
17. Teruki Hanazawa
Anime: Mob Psycho 100 This guy is on the list strictly for having the longest and most tragic bad hair day ever. At first he just got a buzzcut on top. No problem, our modern status symbol Danny Devito rocks that hairstyle. But then his hair started going down a weird path where it just kept getting taller, and my boy ended up looking like the English Imperial guard off duty. It just made him look ridiculous, and if I’m being honest with you, I think the bold cut suited him better.
16. Rock Lee
Anime: Naruto Okay, just for a second forget about what an amazing character Lee is, or at least was. Now look at him purely physically. You have to admit that if you saw someone with a bowl-cut, eyebrows thicker than a Snickers, in a green jumpsuit, wearing orange leg heaters, you probably wouldn’t think “oh what a sexy beast!” The fact that Guy, who I also love, looks the exact same and is usually around Lee really doesn’t help. Especially when the person learns that Guy is not his father.
15. Carnage Kabuto
Anime: One Punch Man One Punch Man has seen quite the few oddball villains. I mean, the final boss of season 1 just looks like your average Yu-Gi-Oh card, but they always have an interesting aesthetic. Kabuto just looks like a giant cockroach that somehow got injected with steroids. He does get some cool points once he transforms into his carnage mode. But if we’re looking at just his base form, he is definitely among the uglier characters. Maybe somewhere on the level of that crab dude from episode 1.
14. Entoma Vasilissa Zeta
Anime: Overlord Entoma really didn’t seem fit to be on this list. In fact, she looks absolutely adorable. So you can imagine my shock when we finally see her in combat and learn that her face isn’t a face at all. It’s like, I get how that could give her an advantage in battle. But holy hell was I not prepared for what was under that mask. So just for the shock factor alone, and the fact that bugs are the definition of ugly, Entoma has to be on here.
13. Tomoko Kuroki
Anime: WataMote There’s a reason why glow-ups are such a popular trend online, as puberty really does us dirty most of the time. But for the most part, anime ignores that fact and makes every high schooler a model with the perfect body and facial features. And then we have Tomoki. She doesn’t really know how to dress, comb her hair, sleep for a sufficient amount so that bags don’t form under her eyes, walk, say hello… she’s just a lost cause. All of this leads her to looking quite poor, which is ironically only made worse whenever she tries to look pretty. Don’t worry, we’ve all been Tomoki at some point. And it does get better.
12. Berocas
Anime: The Rising of the Shield Hero I don’t know about you, but when I hear “slave trader”, I don’t really imagine a dapper handsome young gentleman. In fact, Berocas fits very nicely with what I imagine. A Monopoly man meets Dr. Penguin hybrid with very greedy pockets and non-existent morals. His fashion sense is definitely a bit out there, with his hat being twice the size of his head and all that. But it’s his fake smile and douchey glasses that really make him seem ugly in my eyes.
11. The Titans
Anime: Attack on Titan I can’t put a name down as all the named Titans(or should I say Titan users) look rather decent. However, the background Titans are just hideous. Maybe it’s because they never have any emotion on their face, or because their facial features are so weird. But I can’t say I have seen a good-looking nameless Titan. The fact that they also run in the most hilarious way, are constantly naked but also don’t have any genitalia, all just makes their whole appearance a mess. Okay scratch that last part, it’s a good thing they don’t have genitalia.
10. Yoshinobu Kubota
Anime: Sakamoto Desu ga? I feel like I can’t say much about why I think Yoshinobu is ugly, as I’ll only reveal my own insecurities. So I’m just going to phrase it like this: literally everyone in the show is a steaming dumpster fire compared to our all-powerful God, Sakamoto. He’s so hott that Yoshinobu’s mom is not only in love with him, but I can bet $20 that she would sell her son to get a date with Sakamoto.
9. Nendou’s Mom
Anime: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Is it sexist that I put down Nendou’s mom and not Nendou himself? I have no clue. But Nendou can just barely work the style he has going on, yet I feel like that’s because he’s that bro/funny archetype. His mom, on the other hand, who if you can’t tell looks exactly like him, is a whole different can of worms. So even though multiple men have fallen for Nendou’s mom, I just have to go by head-canon and put her on here.
8. Petelgeuse Romanée-Conti
Anime: Re: Zero Petelgeuse really has a face that even a mother can’t love, no matter how much he would like to believe otherwise. The green bowl-cut is so last season. And being that pale white hasn’t been in fashion since the Victorian era. The fact that the bags under his eyes look straight-up bloody, and that he rips out his skin quite often, really doesn’t help. Having bad skin care is one thing. But eating it is just a whole different level of no-no.
7. Melody
Anime: Hunter x Hunter The fact that this is a female is really what guarantees her spot on this list. Don’t get me wrong, different strokes for different folks. But if I went on a Tinder date with a female and found myself faced with someone that looks like a forty-year-old balding mole person, I would run for the hills. True, her voice is magical and she’s a very nice person. But talking about just her looks, it’s better to look the other way.
6. Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki
Anime: Fairy Tail I almost don’t want to put Big Ed on here, simply because he has so much swagger and confidence that he can nearly convince me that he’s a beautiful man. But as we the short kings know, being under 6 feet is already a death sentence, let alone being under 5 feet. His head is also miraculously big, to the point where I am impressed he can walk properly and his features are so strong and yet unfitting that he simply looks comical.
5. Witch of the Waste
Anime: Howl’s Moving Castle Oh man, I really don’t like looking at her. I’m in no position to fat shame or anything, but when your second chin literally resembles a big fluffy scarf, there’s no way it can look good. And this is just when she’s calm and composed. The second she breaks down, her chin multiplies into the tens of thousands, her face starts breaking out in a sweat, and wrinkles… and oh my god I can’t talk about this anymore.
4. Dodoria
Anime: Dragon Ball Z Thank God Dodoria doesn’t stick around for long as a villain, as I could never get used to looking at this face. Even just making a character this shade of pink is already a death sentence. But the fact that they made him look like a walking disease really isn’t doing him any favors. He doesn’t even have a six pack or some cool power that would distract us from the way he looks. He’s just going to stand there and torture our eyes until his dying breath.
3. Linlin Charlotte
Anime: One Piece Speaking of pink, overweight, and a literal dagger in my eye, Linlin. One Piece has quite the few peculiar characters, no doubt about it. But Linlin just scarred me the most. She looks like Black Beard’s nagging wife that owns a paddle and screams at young retail workers. She literally looks like the final boss Karen of the One Piece universe. She would probably start a protest over the word “pirate” as it’s historically insensitive. You get the picture.
2. Pesci
Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Golden Wind This is why Ferb was never drawn as an anime character, it’s absolutely hideous! My man has the head of a vegetable and is literally all neck. I can’t stress enough how much it bothers me that the man has no chin whatsoever. Why does he style his hair like that? It’s like he’s begging us to mentally picture a pineapple on the top of his shoulders. As far as JJBA goes, his head and fashion sense are rather normal. It’s just his head that’s really freaking me out.
1. Shigekiyo Yangu
Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Diamond is Unbreakable I’m gonna be real with you here: I hate everything about this guy’s appearance. He looks like Dodoria, but somehow even worse because he isn’t even an alien. What are those horns on his head? Is that ever explained? The fact that he’s also either crying or being a money-hungry douche only sends out this aura of “please get out of my sight”. God he just makes me so irrationally angry. Kira is definitely an A+ villain in my book.
