Tired of your allies throwing every team fight, and giving you no peel while they tunnel vision on an Udyr? Then I’ve got good news for you! There’s a playstyle where you don’t need to team fight or be stuck to your allies like glue to secure that victory screen: split pushing. As a split pusher, you carry the game by literally staying as far as possible from your allies. In fact, they’ll be on the opposite side of the map, keeping the enemy busy while you help yourself to a buffet of minions, take down turrets and sneakily work your way to the inhibitors. Put simply, you create global pressure. You slowly whittle down the opposing team by forcing them to sacrifice something whenever they (or try to) gain something. Although any champion can technically split push with the right itemization and macro, it goes without saying that there are some more fit for the bill than others (no offense Malphite). I’ve ranked the best split pushers of this season (S11), so you’ll know exactly which champions to main to satisfy all your solo carrying desires.
8. Singed
Singed’s unique playstyle certainly won’t win everyone over. But his capacity for split pushing is undeniable. While he’s not the best duelist – unless the opponent forgets the number 1 rule of League, and decides to chase him – his crowd control and movement speed make it easy for him to play around any enemies heading his way. He also has exceptionally fast wave clear, thanks to his Q. Now, Singed can’t really compete against the other split pushers on our list. Since he lacks both attack speed and auto-attack enhancers, he doesn’t deal much damage to turrets. However: If you want a split pusher that’s guaranteed to tilt the enemy off the face of the Rift, Singed is the surefire way to go.
7. Trundle
The best split pushers have high sustain, solid dueling, and are capable of taking turrets quickly. Trundle fits this to a T. His healing passive and life-stealing ultimate gives him great survivability. He can also bludgeon down opponents and towers with ease, as his abilities grant him increased attack speed and damage. Sadly, despite his smashin’ big attitude, the Troll King isn’t the strongest split pusher in the current meta – his damage scaling is poor, so he drops off late.
6. Camille
Camille is without a doubt one of the most mobile and slippery champions in the game, making her virtually impossible to catch or escape from. Couple her high mobility with her damage-dealing kit and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a formidable split pusher. While her dueling capability isn’t at the same level as split pushers like Fiora, she does have a different kind of strength: She also excels at team fighting. This makes her a much “safer” split pusher compared to other champions; if split pushing falls through, she can still contribute to the game.
5. Yorick
The main goal of split pushing is to create pressure, and Yorick creates pressure wherever he goes. And also wherever he doesn’t: His Maiden and Mist Walkers can push a lane by themselves, meaning he can push two lanes at the same time. This makes Yorick a monstrous split pusher – not surprising considering he’s best buds with rotting corpses and screeching spirits. The only reason he’s not higher up on this list? He lacks mobility, so he easily gets collapsed on without effective vision.
4. Nasus
Clocking in at number 4 is Nasus, aka Susan. Aka the trendiest doge before Dogecoin. Since split pushers mainly rely on farming to gain their strength, it’s no surprise why this doge is so pawfect for the playstyle: The more he farms (stacks), the more damage he deals. With enough stacks, Nasus becomes a 1v5 machine that drives his opponents barking mad. And when he’s not whacking any enemy that attempts to stop him to smithereens? He’s wreaking havoc on turrets and massacring waves with his AoE ability.
3. Fiora
Fiora’s title is the “Grand Duelist,” and there’s a pretty good reason for it: If played well, she wins virtually every duel, no matter how tanky the opponent is or how much counter play they have. This gives Fiora phenomenal split pushing potential, since the enemy team will always have to send at least two players to deal with her. The only downside? She has an exceptionally high skill cap. But once mastered, you can rest assured you’ll be dragging the enemy left, right and center, while your own allies secure objective after objective.
2. Jax
Jax might not have the strongest laning phase. But once he hits mid game, he makes for an aggressive split pusher that draws pressure to him like a magnet. He scales exceptionally well, and his attack speed granting-passive allows him to take down turrets (and his enemies) in an instant. If you don’t stop a Jax early on, you’ll be saying goodbye to your turrets, your inhibs, and your chances of winning the game.
1. Tryndamere
Finally, we’ve arrived at the ultimate split pusher: Good ol’ Tryndamere, the Barbarian King. Tryndamere strikes fear into the hearts of all. And he has a natural ability at making the opposing team queue dodge the moment you pick him in champ select. But what exactly makes him so feared, so hated, so split-pushin’ perfect? Every single part of his kit enhances his split pushing capabilities. He can smack down turrets like they’re minions, fight anyone who attempts to stop him to the death (without dying), and run away with ease once he’s pushed out the lane – and taken everything in it. That’s not even considering the fact that his scaling is insane. The longer the game lasts, the more unstoppable (and more tilt-inducing) he becomes. The only “flaw” Tryndamere has? His right arm is a lot stronger than his left arm. Note: this content was created under Riot Games’ “Legal Jibber Jabber” policy using assets owned by Riot Games.
