In fact, most teams completely neglect aesthetics in favor of strength. For others, form is much more important than function. Luckily, Game Freak included plenty of lovely lady-like Pokémon for those of us who prefer a team that will turn heads for their beauty (instead of their brutishness).
15. Snubbull
Given that it’s literally called “The Fairy Pokémon” it’d be wrong to leave Snubbull off the list. Although it certainly won’t be winning any Beauty Contests where I’m the judge. Some of the older Poké fans might remember the celebrity trend of toting a prized pooch around in their purses, and I can’t help but think of that questionable fad when I see the so-ugly-it’s-almost-cute Snubbull. It’s even canon that it makes a popular companion for women because of its playful, loving nature. It has all the assets to be a pretty cute puppy, like pink coloring, blue polka dots, and even a ruffle near its feet that resembles a skirt… but something about its mean, wrinkly face takes away from the “aww” factor.
14. Gardevoir
The Embrace Pokémon serves as the feminine counterpart to the exclusively male Gallade, even though Gardevoir has an equal chance of being either gender. Gardevoir’s design looks like a long, flowing dress made of petals that adorn slender legs and a nipped-in waist. And this creature can harness the powers of nature to disorient and confuse its opponents, with Dazzling Gleam, Moonblast, and Misty Terrain, creating a formidable offensive and defensive moveset that perfectly matches the aesthetic of this elegant Pokémon.
13. Lopunny
Lopunny’s slim waist, fur boots, and lively attitude give it an extra feminine appearance, despite having just as much chance of being male as it does of being female. Its ears are a significant point of pride, and Lopunny spends its time outside of training ensuring that they stay fluffed up and well-maintained. Rough-handling of their long, lopped ears will result in a flurry of kicks that you wouldn’t expect from such a delicate-looking creature. And shiny Lopunny is particularly girly, with all of its cream-colored tufts shifting to a delightful shade of pink.
12. Bellossom
There are a few evolutionary lines that are genuinely shocking… Magikarp into Gyrados, Feebas into Milotic, and one of my personal favorites: Gloom into Bellossom. Gloom has one of the most wretched stenches you might have the misfortune of smelling. But Bellossom knows how to make lemonade out of lemons. It’s said that the smellier the Gloom, the more sweetly-scented the Bellossom’s blooms will be once it’s evolved with a Sun Stone.
11. Aromatisse
Sassy and sweetly-scented Aromatisse is a fragrance force to be reckoned with! It’s most well-known for its ability to create some of the best and worst odors known to the world of Pokémon, but I don’t think Aromatisse gets enough props for its keen sense of fashion. Ladies who love getting dressed up for a night out would get along just fine with this Pokémon, who has ultra-fluffed feathers resembling a strapless dress, complete with a side-slit a-la Angelina Jolie at the 2012 Oscars.
10. Slurpuff
Stuffed with fluff, whipped into a meringue, and with a cherry on top… Slurpuff takes all of a puppy’s charm and mixes it with dreamy dessert to create a Pokémon more full of air than brains. Every part of Slurpuff, from its cherry-like topping to the bottom of its paws, is pink. This makes it a super girly option for someone with a sweet tooth. Its puffs of fur, lolling tongue, and tiny toe-beans make it look like a poodle, as imagined by a little girl who dreams of desserts for every meal. It really lives up to its appearance with the help of its excellent sense of smell, which it uses to help pastry chefs bake scrumptious treats.
9. Lurantis
Lurantis is the Pokémon world’s reimagining of the Orchid Mantis, also known as the Walking Flower. Despite looking like it would be right at home in a Bug-type gym, that’s actually a clever camouflage it uses for protection. Lurantis looks and smells like a delicate flower, using that fact to tempt its foes a bit closer so it can attack with its razor-sharp petals. Of course, the Bloom Sickle Pokémon wouldn’t be on this list if its petals were just for fighting. They’re quite elegant, giving this Pokémon the appearance of dancing as it moves in battle. Lurantis’ graceful appearance makes it a popular choice amongst collectors who enjoy the work it takes to ensure that it keeps its gorgeous, pink coloring.
8. Clefairy
Clefairy is a girly fan favorite due to its chubby body and little butterfly wings that store moonlight used for floating through the night sky. Seems pretty straightforward, right? These shy but cheerful cuties enjoy dancing under the moonlight, and spend their days nestled into cozy caves on Mt. Moon with all of their friends. Despite being rarely seen by humans, those lucky enough to encounter one are said to be filled with happiness by Clefairy’s adorable behavior and charming cry.
7. Teddiursa
What girl wouldn’t love the chance to bring her favorite plushie to life? With Teddiursa, that dream comes true! Despite growing up into one of the most ferocious Pokémon in the Poke-verse, Teddiursa is almost unBEARably cute with sparkling eyes, big ears, and a crescent moon mark that glows brilliantly when it discovers honey. Don’t let its charming features fool you, though. Teddiursa is known for using its apparent innocence as a distraction for snagging human food.
6. Minccino
What better companion for a gal who loves to primp and preen than a Minccino? These sweet furry critters say hello to their friends by gently brushing them with their tail! From the beginning of Minccino’s design process, Game Freak went all out to ensure it would continue topping the cute charts for generations to come. How? By hiring Atsuko Nishida, an artist known for her talents in designing cute characters like Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. It’s easy to love Minccino’s standard form, but its shiny version is superior. Its pink fur looks like it’s a soft, strawberry-scented slice of heaven.
5. Vulpix
Fluffy? Check. Tiny? Check. Gorgeous hair? Check. Vulpix has everything it takes to nab a high-ranking spot on the list of girly Pokémon. And Vulpix was the first Pokémon I went ga-ga for when I was in elementary school, and I desperately wanted one of my own to show off. This little fox has a fiery personality, and it’s known for creating tiny wisps of flame that are easily mistaken for ghosts by unsuspecting humans. The Alolan region took Vulpix to new peaks of squee-worthy cuteness. Its adaptations to the cold mountains it calls home led to snow-white, ultra-curly fur accented with icy blue “socks” and gorgeous baby-blue eyes.
4. Celebi
Celebi could give Instagram makeup influencers a run for their money with its impressive eyeliner skills. Those big blue eyes only add to its status as a gorgeous, girly addition to the Pokedex. And this legendary Pokémon is a nurturing and loving forest deity with a green thumb (literally!) that would put most gardeners to shame. Everywhere Celebi travels through time flourishes with plant life, filling the world of Pokémon with thriving flora. It also doesn’t hurt that Celebi’s overall aesthetic is similar to that of a wee fairy you’d find nestled in a sunflower for an afternoon nap.
3. Primerina
Another femme design with a majority chance of being male, Primerina is the elegant mermaid every little girl dreamed of being, complete with a siren song that serves as its weapon of choice. The Soloist Pokémon just might be the girliest starter in the Dex. It’s dressed to impress with a huge tiara, strings of pearls serving as ponytail holders, gorgeous eyelashes that accentuate its bright, blue eyes, and a silky ruffle that looks like a shirt collar and matching skirt. Primerina uses battles as a chance to show off, using water balloons as a backdrop for its big debut. It’s said that in the moonlight, these balloons glitter and sparkle, creating a magical scene entirely controlled by the sound of Primerina’s song.
2. Sylveon
To be called the girliest amongst a group of eight of the cutest Pokémon in the franchise is a pretty high honor – and one that Sylveon wholeheartedly deserves. Although the Intertwining Pokémon is more likely to be male than female, its design is ultra-femme, with lovely ribbons and bows adorning its dainty pastel body. Even Sylveon’s skills appeal to those who look for a softer side to their Pokémon companions, as its ribbon “feelers” help understand and soothe the emotions of its trainer. Of course, Sylveon isn’t all sugar and sweetness. Those same feelers are used to empathize with its trainer are also used to lull its prey into a false sense of security before Sylveon attacks. And speaking of attacks, Sylveon’s moves seem to be built off the adage that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Her repertoire includes Disarming Voice, Charm, Baby-Doll Eyes, and Draining Kiss. Those might sound pretty cute, but the Pokémon on the receiving end of those moves won’t be inclined to agree. It’s also a well-known fact that Fairy-type Sylveon will happily go toe-to-toe (or paw-to-talon) with Dragon-types, handily defeating even the most formidable foes and looking adorable doing it.
1. Milotic
Given that Milotic is canonically the most beautiful Pokémon (at least according to the Generation VI Pokedex), there really weren’t any better options for the top spot. Like the classic story of the Ugly Duckling, Milotic is living proof that we can all grow out of our awkward adolescent stage into a true beauty. Before Generation V, the only way to transform a floppy Feebas into its much lovelier evolution was to max out its Beauty with Poffins. Which makes sense when you consider that Milotic is widely regarded as one of the most endearing creatures to inhabit the world of Pokémon. Its pale, cream-colored body complements cotton candy-colored scales and glorious pink eyebrows that would make any Instagram beauty guru green with envy. Milotic is so breathtaking that it serves as a muse for artists, inspiring their works and calming their spirits when they lay eyes on them. This Pokémon uses its glorious looks for good, serving as a soothing presence in the heat of battle. It can even stop arguments in their tracks with a wave of energy, as trainers and Pokémon alike are washed in a sudden sense of calm.
