I know, I know, that’s not the proper way to start a conversation, but I can’t help myself. I think they’re grrrreat. OK jokes aside just hear me out. We’re surrounded by advertisements all the time. Ads that make us think we need a product to be cooler, safer, smell better, etc. We’re constantly inundated with messages that we need more… Until you get to food mascots. Food mascots don’t want anything from you. All they want is to sing a fun jingle and eat some tasty food. That’s exactly what I want to do. So I might as well do it while sharing some of my favorite food-themed skins, all tailor-made for Minecraft.
1. Tony The Tiger
Check Out This Skin I’m using every fiber of my being to resist making the “grrrrreat” joke again… But seriously, this skin is pretty great. Skin creator its10am has managed to make a version of Tony the Tiger in pixelated perfection. I mean actual perfection too. Somehow the Frosted Flakes mascot looks flawless in this blocky form. The bright orange fur, the stripes, and the bright red ascot all add up to a skin that has me craving cereal goodness.
2. Cap’n Crunch
Check Out This Skin The fact that this skin was made in 2012 is astounding. Creator xaeraph on Planet Minecraft managed to blend colors and add textures in a way that makes this hold up over a decade later. Oh, and the skin is Captain Crunch. There’s something so hilarious about this well-constructed seafarer skin not being an actual mariner, but rather an old-man food mascot. This is exactly the type of skin I live for. Added plus: I can enjoy this skin in-game without tearing up the roof of my mouth.
3. Toucan Sam
Check Out This Skin In my opinion, there’s no better cereal mascot than Toucan Sam. The talking parrot is a hilarious idea. And honestly he makes a great cartoon (props to whoever designed and animated him). Toucan Sam is all that much better because of how poorly he adapts to Minecraft. The bird’s body does not translate well to Minecraft playable character. Nor does the large, conical nose that gets totally flattened into a 2D surface. And what’s the result? It’s exactly the kind of hilarious inside joke that makes playing Minecraft with friends so memorable.
4. Coco Pops
Check Out This Skin Ah, Coco Pops, the envy of my youth. When I was a youngster, my folks wouldn’t allow me to partake in chocolate breakfast cereal because “chocolate wasn’t a breakfast food.” But no longer! Now I can enjoy whatever sugary cereal I so choose – whether it be fruity or chocolatey. And now I can also play as the Coco Pops monkey in Minecraft. In all honesty, I’d forgotten about the monkey until I saw this skin. And suddenly the memories all rushed back to me. The skin is a scarily accurate depiction of the mascot, and an impressive design by creator BigBossForp.
5. Chester Cheetah
Check Out This Skin When it comes to the cool factor, no food mascot does it quite like Cheetos’ very own Chester the Cheetah. Can you look at this sunglasses-wearing, lean, striped Cheeto machine and tell me he isn’t as cool as they come? I don’t think so.
6. Kool-Aid Man
Check Out This Skin Just as I talk about “coolness,” the only mascot that could hold a candle to Chester steps in the ring. Or breaks through the wall, if that was your childhood. The Kool-Aid Man, a lifesize pitcher of Kool-Aid, is the perfect storm of hilarious chaos. From his breaking through walls to the fact his face is on the body of the pitcher, a detail which this skin amazingly chose to keep. I’m not saying this skin gives you a pass to break through your friend’s walls shouting the classic “Oh Yeah!” catchphrase. But it would be fitting.
7. Count Chocula
Check Out This Skin I do so love the Halloween spirit that overtakes me when I see a box of Count Chocula. I only ever get to see them during spooky season, even though I’m sure that it can be found year-round. And thanks to the endless bounty of playing Minecraft, you can experience Count Chocula goodness year-round, with creator Violet’s hilarious and well-crafted skin.
8. Chef Boyardee
Check Out This Skin I don’t know if any food mascot holds the special place in my heart that Chef Boyardee does. From the beefaroni to the mighty Spaghetti-O’s, Chef Boyardee has been whipping up family favorites for probably a long amount of time – I don’t actually know. What I do know is that playing Minecraft as Chef Boyardee is a joy that I didn’t know I could experience until right now. I hope you share that joy with me.
9. Lucky the Leprechaun
Check Out This Skin Would any list of food mascots be complete with Lucky the Leprechaun? His diminutive stature can’t quite be captured in Minecraft’s standard sizing. But that hasn’t stopped any of the other cereal mascots, and it surely won’t stop Lucky. Lucky Charms is among the all-time greats of cereal brands. And while I don’t think this skin has the detailing that some of the others do, the allure of playing a cereal-eating leprechaun hoarding a pot of gold… well, that’s just too good to pass up.
10. Franken Berry
Check Out This Skin I firmly believe part of the beauty of mascots (of any kind) is that they can be equal parts fun and terrifying. Everyone loves a cute mascot when they’re a child. But some of them get scarier and more uncanny as you age. With games like Five Nights at Freddy’s hitting mainstream pop culture, this phenomenon has become more well-known. But it never occurred to me that it could spread into Minecraft until this Franken Berry skin. In the spirit of cereal-eating, I’ll let you decide your own opinion on Mr. Franken Berry. Is he delightful and cute? Or an uncanny nightmare? You figure that out, I’ll be eating some cereal.
