And as our emperor states himself, “for emperors, it’s all about how you carry yourself”. So let’s see what kinds of outfits bird man is hiding in his closet. Azir doesn’t have many skins – in fact he only has five, as of this writing. But they’re all excellent and worth looking into. That being said, let’s see which one truly stands on top.
5. SKT T1 Azir
Released: August 17th, 2016 Price: 975 RP I want to start off with this skin, as I do think being a fan of pro play is essential in order to truly enjoy it. While the other skins all use very common and recognizable themes, this skin is made as tribute for SKT T1 fans and lovers of pro play in general. The skin itself is pretty cool, adorning the feathered emperor in more modern & hip clothing, with lots of bright colors and designs. His soldiers are designed to look like normal people, or more likely SKT T1 fans, which is equal part cool and concerning. And his passive turret has a more neutral look too. It’s a pretty good design overall that offers a lot of features for a reasonable amount of RP. But since it is slightly more niche than the others, I’ll have to put it in last place.
4. Galactic Azir
Released: September 15th, 2014 Price: 975 RP I really like this skin, however, it doesn’t really offer as much as the other top three to warrant a higher position. Now what do I mean by that? Galactic Azir does feature a base model revamp and entire new animations. However, they don’t look as unique compared to the others on this list. This is because the galactic theme was symbolized more in the color schemes than in the actual designs. You’ll see what I mean if you’re familiar with his other skins already. Galactic Azir features a blue/purple color scheme with the soldiers looking a bit bland, but still very cool. The passive turret is also pretty dope – but nothing to write home about. A good skin overall, but lacking when compared to the rest. Then again, there’s a reason why the other skins here are more expensive.
3. Gravelord Azir
Released: December 1st, 2015 Price: 1350 RP I think this had the potential of being the absolute best, but it missed the mark ever so slightly. The base model is just amazing, with very strong Skyrim Dragon Priest vibes, and the backing animation is expectedly as haunting. Where I think the design team dropped the ball a little bit is with the soldiers. Don’t get me wrong, they look extremely cool. However I wish they looked more like skeletons and less like spooky soldier dudes. Their shields do feature skulls, and they definitely fit in with Azir’s base model design. But I just feel like it was a waste given the title Gravelord. I have a feeling it was a censorship issue, but I’m disappointed nevertheless.
2. Warring Kingdoms Azir
Released: January 19th, 2017 Price: 1350 RP I just love the approach that this skin took. Instead of the usual summoner-esque vibe that Azir has, this skin doubled down on his position as a leader. His soldiers are, well, just that: soldiers. And Azir is nothing more than their commander. His backing animation even has him playing a game (which I assume is Go/Weiqi), to further emphasize his position as a tactician and not a powerful mage. The character model design is also just impeccable, with heavily stylized armor and big red feathers atop his head and on his back. Warring Kingdoms Azir truly is a magnificent skin. In fact, I have nothing bad to say about it. The only reason it isn’t at the top here is the fact that the following skin is somehow even more insane.
1. Elderwood Azir
Released: December 10th, 2020 Price: 1350 RP Whoever designed the base model for this skin, I want them to get some sort of medal. This is just beautiful. The mystical Elderwood energy is so strong with this skin that I almost feel like I’m playing a completely different character that just happens to share Azir’s kit. That might be a negative for some, but I really enjoyed it. His passive turret seems like something that would protect a haunted forest. And all of his soldiers look just creepy enough to sell you on the mystical woods vibe. I especially like their headpiece, as it looks like roots covering their face, with only a beaming purple eye shining out. Heavy Obito Uchiha energy and I appreciate it.
