Its downside makes the Dusk Crown Ring a hard item to recommend for spellcasters, but it finds a home in many builds that want to dabble in magic without becoming a full-on mage.
What Does The Dusk Crown Ring Do?
The Dusk Crown Ring reduces the Focus Point cost of your spells, in exchange for lowering your max HP. The FP cost of Miracles, Pyromancies and Sorceries are each reduced by 25%, a fairly substantial bonus for players that will be costing spells throughout every battle. The HP cost is also substantial, however, with the wearer losing 15% of their max HP. Regardless of what level you’re at, 15% stings. You can lessen this drop slightly if you equip rings that raise your max HP, although you won’t be able to make up the full 15% without dedicating every remaining ring slot to it. With no way to properly mitigate the downside of the Dusk Crown Ring, it can be difficult to decide whether or not the 25% drop in spell cost is worth it. The Dusk Crown Ring’s drawback seems even harder to justify once you factor in some other rings that have similar benefits to it. The Ashen Estus Ring, for example, boosts the power of Ashen Estus Flasks by 20%, allowing you to restore more FP rather than lowering the cost entirely. The Ashen Estus Ring has no effect on your max HP, so it is certainly the better choice for anyone who is already using Ashen Estus Flasks. Not all builds that use spells are full-time sorcerers, however. Many non-magic builds will still include a weapon or player buff that gets applied and reapplied throughout tough fights. The 25% drop in FP cost the Dusk Crown Ring provides can be all that one of these builds needs to cast their buff an extra time, a bonus which can give them the edge in PvP battles. Of course, the 15% HP decrease is still an issue with melee-based builds. Luckily, their increased mobility over spellcasters and extra stock of Estus Flasks means that many will survive the penalty of equipping the ring.

Is The Dusk Crown Ring Worth It?
If your build is focused enough on magic to stock Ashen Estus Flasks, the Dusk Crown Ring is absolutely not worth using. Its downside is too high to justify using it on a fragile mage build, especially when the superior Ashen Estus Ring is available. But if you simply dabble in magic and want to cast a few extra buffs with your small FP bar, the Dusk Crown Ring may just be the perfect ring for you.
