Once upgraded, the Kitchen will allow Stella to cook dishes that have two ingredients. This is important, as cooking several dishes early in the game are needed to progress the story. The process itself begins with building the primary kitchen, before recruiting Atul and receiving the improvement after a number of quick requests. This how-to guide will teach you everything you need, as well as everything the kitchen offers once improved. Let’s begin!
Building the Kitchen
When you start the game and recruit your first spirit (Gwen) aboard the ship, building the kitchen will be one of your first tasks. Gwen herself will first ask you to build the kitchen during the request “I Get Cranky When I’m Hungry.” Luckily the kitchen itself is automatically unlocked in the Beginner Blueprint Station, and you can immediately build it once you have the materials. Simply go to Stella’s blueprint station atop her cabin and look for the Kitchen. This building requires a 3×5 space, and the materials needed are:
5 Maple Logs 8 Bright Jellies
Maple logs are found by chopping the maple trees found in Mosstein Cove, Barkensheim Creek, and Greenhalten Bay. Meanwhile, bright jelly is obtained through the Jellyfish event. The event itself will be first introduced by Gwen, with Stage located at the coordinates X:80, Y: 92, and marked by the Jellyfish icon. There are three more succeeding stages, but you don’t need to concern yourself with them for now. Once you start the mini-game, you will see small jellyfish icons appearing on the right side of the screen. Simply position Stella into these spots to grab as much jellyfish as you can. Green jellyfish will give you bright jelly, while the yellow jellyfish will give out Glims that you can spend on the game. After getting the required number of bright jellies, you can go ahead and build the kitchen. When you first build the kitchen, you’re only allowed to use one ingredient per dish. To start cooking, just stand inside and interact with the oven. Then pick an ingredient and wait for the timer that will appear to finish to get the food. Note that leaving any food inside the oven for too long will result in Burnt Food. Here’s a list of the complete dishes you can make in the basic kitchen: Aside from these recipes, you can also put wood or sawdust in the oven to make coal, which is also useful in the game.
Recruiting Atul & The Kitchen Improvement
The next step is recruiting Atul the spirit, who will eventually give you the kitchen improvement. Usually, he’s the second spirit you’ll recruit onto the ship, and you’ll find him in Berkensheim Creek at the coordinates X: 5, Y: 117. Once he’s on the ship, it’s all a matter of following his requests (a lot of which are quick and easy) until you get the kitchen improvement. Here’s all of the requests that you need to accomplish beforehand: After accomplishing these tasks, you’ll get the request “Big Stove,” where Atul will ask you to “step up your culinary game” by improving the stove. He will then give you the kitchen improvement blueprint. To make the improvement, you’ll need:
5 Bright Jellies 8 Lightnings in a Bottle 12 Linen Fabrics 0 Glims
Lightning in a bottle is acquired through the mini-game that Atul introduces to you, where you’ll have to jump around the boat in order to catch the lightning that will hit various parts of the boat. Meanwhile, linen fabric is made by using linen thread in the Loom. The Loom itself is unlocked in the Hobbyist Blueprint Station in Albert’s shipyard. After getting the improvement, you should be able to cook dishes with 2 ingredients. Here’s a complete list of the dishes you can whip up:
