Or to quickly get 99 Purifying Salt you can unlock Fafnir in the Monster Arena – although this is only a one-time drop for the unlock. In the game, Purifying Salts can customize No Encounters onto a piece of armor, which turns off random battles anywhere you walk. Aeons can also use Purifying Salts to learn Dispel. You’ll need 30 Purifying Salts for the No Encounters ability, and aeons need 3 Purifying Salt to learn Dispel.

All Purifying Salt Locations

There’s a few ways to get your hands on some salt. If you’re looking to get it for free and don’t mind a bit of a grind, then Fallen Monks (both normal and the Flamethrower variety) have them as a rare steal. A quicker way to get a lot of the item is by unlocking Fafnir in the Monster Arena, which nets you 99 Salts. And another Monster Arena creation, Abaddon, has 3 Salts as a common steal. Fallen Monks can be found all over the Zanarkand Ruins. Abaddon is unlocked by capturing one of every fiend inside Sin. Fafnir is unlocked at the Monster Arena by capturing four of each Drake type fiend (the lizard things) in Spira. More specifically, these are all the Drak fiends to capture (remember you need 4 of each):

Kusariqqu (Thunder Plains) Lamashtu (Djose Highroad & Mushroom Rock Road) Mushussu (Sanubia Desert) Nidhogg (Cavern of the Stolen Fayth & Mt. Gagazet) Vouivre (Mi’ihen Highroad Oldroad)

Purifying Salt Common Uses

The primary purpose for Purifying Salts is to obtain the No Encounters ability. This armor customization turns off random battles, allowing you to explore the world in peace. While it has no application in battle, the peace of mind that No Encounters can bring is worth keeping that extra piece of gear around. Purifying Salt can also be used as a quick and dirty Dispel. This can come in handy if you need to get rid of an enemy’s Haste or Protect if a spellcaster isn’t around. The same thing can be said about teaching Dispel to an Aeon. Rikku can also use her Mix overdrive with Purifying Salts to get some interesting results. Here’s some of the better mixes to try: Ultra-Null-All (Healing Spring + Purifying Salt): Applies Cheer, Focus, Aim, Reflex, NulBlaze, NulShock, NulTide, and NulFrost to the whole party. Megalixir (Al Bhed Potion + Purifying Salt): Restores the party to full HP and MP. Mega Phoenix (Phoenix Down + Purifying Salt): Revives all KO’d party members.

Are Purifying Salts Worth Farming?

They are, but not for the No Encounters auto-ability. That particular ability can be earned much earlier, and quicker, by capturing a Ghost from the Cavern of Stolen Fayth and farming it in the Monster Arena for the armor it drops. That armor has No Encounters on it. But farming to have some Purifying Salts on hand as an item is super handy. Not only are they good for some useful Rikku Mixes, but as previously stated, they’re also good for that quick dispel against an enemy’s buffs.
