We reached out to our community to find out why simulation games are so head-scratchingly successful; aside from the huge variety of games available and the sense of achievement one gets from successfully completing a task, lots of people referenced the chance that simulation games could give you to learn or perfect a new skill, free of commitment and real-world stresses. We want to find out if the idea of learning a new skill through a simulation video game is realistic – so we’re looking for ten people to help us do exactly that! We want to work with ten people – gamers or non-gamers – for a two-month period, to find out if games like Farming Simulator, PC Builder, Bakery Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator, plus others, can teach transferable skills. In return for the work, we’re offering the lucky candidates $1,000 each, plus a copy of the games to keep, a headset and controller of their choice and a $50 gift card for games marketplace, Steam. Role requirements:
Flexible schedule – applicants will be asked to play a variety of simulation games for a total of two months, playing a different game every two weeks. Gameplay must total 10 hours per game. Applicants will be asked to complete corresponding skills tests before and after playing each game, to test how the game may have affected their performance. Applicants must have a strong internet connection and a PC to ensure they can play all of the games properly. Applicants must be over the age of 18 and hold a valid driver’s license.
Anyone brought on for the role will receive:
$1,000 USD for the two month-long role. A copy of each game tested. A headset and controller of their choice. A $50 gift card for games marketplace, Steam.
If our findings show that these kinds of games can teach real-world transferable skills, it could be a great way to encourage alternative forms of learning but also encourage employers to accept gaming skills on CVs. So whether you’re an avid gamer and want to get paid to test your skills, if you’ve never stepped foot inside the world of gaming and want a guide on where to start, or if you simply like the sound of being a part of a possibly game-changing (pun intended) experiment, you can apply here or via the embedded Google Form below. Applications must be received before 30th June 2022 for a chance to be considered. Loading…
