And you should always have ways to disrupt your opponent, while having great ways to attack. If you haven’t got a killer boss monster though, your great deck won’t mean a whole lot. But maybe you’re just not sure where to start. Well in this list, I’ll be showing you how to fix that by ranking some of the best boss monsters in all of Yu-Gi-Oh!
12. Invoked Mechaba
Invoked cards have been a threat in competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! for a long time, as they work in so many decks! There are a few great Invoked monsters – and this is one of the best. Invoked Mechaba is a dangerous Fusion monster with 2500 ATK/2100 DEF and a fantastic negation effect. Once per turn, when a Spell/Trap or monster effect is activated, you can send the same type of card from your hand to the Graveyard to negate and banish it. If this card is on the field early, it can be impossible to play around, as a lot of decks just stop working when the banish pile eats their cards.
11. Borreload Dragon
A lot of powerful monsters require a deck built around them to bring them out. Yet this card is so powerful because almost every deck in the game can use it. Borreload Dragon is a Link-4 monster with 3000 ATK, and can’t be targeted by monster effects. This monster also has a quick effect that lets you reduce a monster’s ATK/DEF by 500. But the best part is at the start of the damage step, if this card attacks, you can take control of the monster you were going to attack! That monster goes to the Graveyard during the end phase next turn. But nothing is stopping you from using it as material before that happens.
10. Borrelsword Dragon
If you liked Borreload Dragon, you’ll love its more aggressive counterpart. Allow me to introduce Borrelsword Dragon! This monster is just as easy to summon as Borreload Dragon, has the same 3000 ATK, and cannot be destroyed by battle. Borrelsword Dragon has a quick effect where it can change a monster on the field to defense position and can attack twice. Your opponent cannot activate effects in response to this either. So once you declare an attack, it’s going to happen! If this monster attacks a face-up monster then it can also take half that monster’s attack and add it to itself.
9. Eldlich The Golden Lord
A lot of cards on this list are incredibly powerful. But once they’re gone, they’re gone. However, this monster can come back over and over – and will be a constant threat for the entire duel. Eldlich The Golden Lord is a Zombie Monster with 2500 ATK/2800 DEF. And as its type would suggest, it is very comfortable in the Graveyard. You can send this card and a Spell/Trap you control to the Graveyard to send any card on the field to the Graveyard – which is a smart way around cards that can’t be destroyed by effects. When this card is in the Graveyard, you can then send a Spell/Trap to the Graveyard to return it to your hand, and then you can special summon a Zombie from your hand. So yeah, your opponent is going to be seeing this card a lot!
8. Infinitrack Fortress Megaclops
If your opponent doesn’t use XYZ monsters, this is almost impossible to get rid of. Infinitrack Fortress Megaclops is a Link-3, but requires you to use XYZ monsters as material. And this monster is a powerhouse with 4000 ATK, plus it can’t be destroyed by monster effects or battle unless they’re from an XYZ monster. Infinitrack Fortress Megaclops also has a nasty stealing effect, allowing you to bring an XYZ monster back from your graveyard – and use one of your opponent’s monsters as material for it. If you use this effect, your opponent only takes half damage that turn. But this card would be completely broken otherwise.
7. Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon
This monster is a little tricky to summon if you aren’t playing a Blue-Eyes deck. But it’s so incredibly powerful that it deserves a spot on this list. Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon is a Ritual Monster with 4000 ATK/0 DEF and is incredibly hard to remove, as it’s both immune to destruction effects and cannot be targeted. If that wasn’t enough, this card also deals double piercing damage to defense position monsters. So your opponent cannot hide in defense mode unless they’ve just given up. I wouldn’t blame them.
6. Black Luster Soldier – Soldier Of Chaos
Banishing your opponent’s key cards can leave them in an unwinnable position, as most decks simply cannot play from the Banish pile. If you combine that with immunity to destruction effects, you’ve got all the makings of a great boss monster! Black Luster Soldier – Soldier Of Chaos is a Link-3 with 3000 ATK. But if a LVL7 or higher monster was used as Link Material, it can’t be destroyed by card effects. In fact, it can’t even be targeted! When this card destroys a monster in battle, you can pick from a few effects to suit any occasion: Black Luster Soldier can gain 1500 ATK, this monster can attack twice on your next turn, or you can banish 1 card on the field.
5. Shaddoll Construct
This monster had its time on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Ban list, and while it’s off as of this writing, it is still an oppressive threat to even the most competitive decks in the game. Shaddoll Construct is a Fusion monster with 2800 ATK/2500 DEF But its ATK may as well be infinity, because if it battles a special summoned monster, it destroys it immediately and before damage calculation. You can throw Shaddoll Construct at just about anything to get rid of it. Maybe that time on the ban list was deserved!
4. Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax
How would you like to topple any monster no matter how strong they are? Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax is a devastating Link-4 monster with 3000 ATK. It also offers great protection for your entire field, as your opponent cannot target it with effects, and they can only target this monster for attacks. The best part though is once per battle, if this monster battles a special summoned monster, it gains ATK equal to the monster it’s battling – so it will always win! If your opponent removes this monster then you can also shuffle 1 card on the field into the deck. So you’ve got a great removal effect to play with, as well as the last laugh.
3. Ultimate Conductor Tyranno
There’s a reason why Dinosaur decks see so much competitive play. And that reason has a lot of teeth! Ultimate Conductor Tyranno has an incredible 3500 ATK/3200 DEF, and is very easy to bring out – only requiring 2 Dinosaurs to be banished from the Graveyard. Once per turn, you can destroy one of your own monsters to flip all of your opponent’s monsters into face-down defense position. This card can attack all of your opponent’s monsters in the battle phase, and you deal 1000 burn damage for every defense position monster it attacks. Oh, did I mention it also destroys any defense position monster regardless of their DEF? There’s nowhere to hide against the king of dinosaurs!
2. Divine Arsenal AA-Zeus – Sky Thunder
At the time of writing, this is one sought after and expensive card. If you use XYZ monsters though, then this is a brutal card for your Extra Deck. Divine Arsenal AA-Zeus – Sky Thunder is a LVL12 XYZ monster with 3000 ATK/3000 DEF. It can also be summoned very easily by using any of your XYZ monsters that battled in the turn as material. And you can detach 2 materials to send every other card to the graveyard. Yes, you read that right. A full field wipe! The great thing about this card is it gets material back when your opponent destroys your cards. So unless they can deal with this monster first (difficult considering the whole field wipe thing), you can hit them with this effect over and over.
1. Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon
Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is so powerful that it was already banned in the OCG (Yu-Gi-Oh! in Japan). And it sets a terrifying standard for boss monsters in the future. Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is a Fusion monster with 3000 ATK/2500 DEF, and a shopping list of effects. This monster is immune to targeting and destruction effects. So once it’s on the field, it’s there to stay. It also has a nasty once per turn effect that lets you destroy a monster and inflict burn damage equal to that monster’s attack. Plus it also has a quick effect where you can discard any card to negate and destroy any effect card. Some players think Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon will end up on the TCG Ban List eventually (at the time of this writing it’s not there yet). But until that happens, this boss takes the well-deserved top spot on this list.
