But today we’re going to look at the Bob Ross pupils and rank our 10 favorite artists in anime. If they can draw well or know how to use a paintbrush, they belong on this list!
10. Rill Boismortier
Anime: Black Clover I’m going to start the list off with a few cheeky picks, as they use their paintbrush to fight! Regardless if you don’t consider Rill and actual painter, he is definitely an artist. His sole goal in life seems to be to create a beautiful picture. He’s always just looking for that right combination of the elements, maybe some blood, the surroundings, and so on. And his power is no joke either. He conjured Zeus’s little brother in an instant and won a certain match in a single shot!
9. Sai
Anime: Naruto Shippuden My second cheeky pick is Sai, the Naruto kuudere. Similar to Rill Boismortier, Sai uses his brush in order to conjure up different creatures from his scroll. Admittedly, they’re not as powerful as Rill’s. But Sai has one other merit, his picture book. Sure you might say that it’s not all that great, but you have to remember this is from his point of view. So the fact that his drawings match up to the manga he’s from means that he’s basically making a full blown portrait of every enemy he faces. The guys’ an artist! But, let’s carry on to some more creative characters.
8. Seishuu Handa
Anime: Barakamon Handa is a try and true artist, a calligrapher to be more precise. And if you don’t think calligraphy is an art, I ask that you watch the show. Just watching his progress, his search for a unique style and mode of expression leaves no doubt in my mind of his talents. One of his works, named “Stars”, is honestly my favorite. And I strongly encourage you to seek out the beauty of his works, or of calligraphy in general, for yourself. And that final scene, oh boy. I never thought that I would tear up at the sight of kanji but here we are now.
7. Nozaki Umetarou
Anime: Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun As anime fans, we of course have to give out tons of love for manga artists, as more often than not their talents translates to the shows we end up watching. Nozaki is a manga artist, and it’s fair to say you wouldn’t connect him to his work at first glance. He draws beautiful and sensitive shoujo, but is personally rather cold and disinterested towards women. He does love going out in search for inspiration, though. Like a less perverted Kosuri Onigashira.
6. Moritaka Mashiro
Anime: Bakuman Mashiro is definitely the more sensitive artistic type. But also one with ambition burning him at the heels. For the former, we see him constantly get giddy when he is texting Azuki and seems to have an excellent gauge of character and tone. For the latter, however, this man is prepared to redo a drawing countless times if he’s not satisfied. A real Kubrick if you ask me. But also, he’s got the mental maturity and drive needed to distance himself from Azuki so they can both achieve their dreams. Mad respect.
5. Hagumi Hanamoto
Anime: Honey and Clover The entire show centers around different types of artists; pottery makers, architects, the mysterious late night shifts, and so on. But out of all of them Hanamoto is arguably the most talented. Being that she both looks and acts like a child, she had a tough time making friends at first (oh you precious dandere). But people started opening up as the series went on. Just imagine being so talented that people press you to send your work to exhibitions so frequently that it gets annoying.
4. Reiji Fujita
Anime: Gallery Fake Unlike a lot of the entries so far, Fujita seems to encompass multiple facets of art. He owns his own painting gallery and he’s extremely knowledgeable about paintings, painters, styles, what’s real and what’s fake. Furthermore he’s very adept at painting restoration, so no matter how beat up a painting may be, he can restore it to its former glory. So the combination of knowing everything art related, and an artist’s hand, make Fujita a no-brainer for this list.
3. Eriri Sawamura
Anime: Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Eriri lives a double life; that of an artist, and that of a different artist… what? Okay, the thing is she goes to an art school and is the very top of her class, cool. But she’s also a mangaka on the side. However, she tries to keep this under locks. What we end up with is a tsundere who everyone looks up to in class, who also has a very successful manga series under her belt. Plus she’s popular. How does she manage it all, I have no clue.
2. Toshino Kyoko
Anime: Yuru Yuri This lively little tomato is just like a ball of positive feelings, energy, and maybe a microphone. Oh yeah and talent, throw talent into that mix as well. Before you even ask, yes, she also likes to draw manga. And yes she is one of us, anime love style. She might give off the impression of not being all that bright too. But her one-night cramming skills are honestly incredible. I feel like she just can’t be bothered to think about things that are non-anime.
1. Miyabi Omichi
Anime: GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class Not only is Omichi an artist, but I feel like she could make anyone an artist to some extent… given they have the fiery paint brush in their heart of course. Nicknamed “The Professor” she seems to know something about everything, be it 3D modeling, photography, whatever. This girl holds all of the answers! And just like a true professor, she seems to only use the language spoken by her grandfathers, namely adding the suffix –dono for everyone like they’re some sort of samurai or something. Like a true artist.
