Not only has this given you the chance to create the perfect fighting machine, but breeding also gave us access to new Pokémon with their baby forms. The likes of Munchlax, Pichu, and Wynaut have captured the hearts of fans everywhere – and have become incredibly popular for just how cute they are! But there are some Pokémon that could really benefit from a baby form, in the same way that others might benefit from a regional variant or another evolutionary stage. Whether it answers a question about the species, or would just make a cute design, these are (in my opinion) some Pokémon that really deserve baby forms.
20. Stonjourner
Where did Stonehenge come from? This is a question that historians have been trying to answer for decades. And frankly, I have the exact same question about Stonjourner. There’s still no real explanation for how Stonjourner came into existence. But seeing as it’s based on a large monument that was carved thousands of years ago, I’d like to take its baby form in a unique direction: Make it even bigger than Stonjourner. All statues start off with a big slab of stone. And that’s literally what I think the baby form should be. Make it a little bit taller and a lot heavier, with a similar stat spread to Shuckle. This could be an interesting choice that would make Stonjourner rise up from relative obscurity.
19. Carnivine
I gotta be honest, I don’t really care about Carnivine. It seems like a Victreebel knock off that’s only remembered because it was in the anime. It’s a basic Grass-type with a big goofy head. But I cannot stop imagining this thing’s gigantic head on a smaller body. For some reason, that’s hilarious to me. There really isn’t anything else to this. I want to see a baby Carnivine with a tiny body and that huge ridiculous head.
18. Pinsir
There are a bunch of Bug-type Pokémon that could use a baby form to explain how they got to be the size of people. However, since it has always been in the shadow of Scyther and Heracross, I feel that Pinsir could use the most love in this situation. If you’re going to make a baby form for Pinsir, you can go in one of two directions. One: make a smaller Pinsir. Or two: make it a stag beetle grub. These are plump c-shaped worms that are, frankly, disgusting. But this could be interesting! You see, these grubs actually… You know what? Nevermind. That’s really gross. Just make it a smaller Pinsir. I’m sure everyone would be happy with that.
17. Tropius
I love dinosaurs, and one of my favorite categories is sauropods. These are large herbivorous dinosaurs with extremely long necks. When I first saw Tropius, I immediately saw the resemblance – and wanted to see what else happened with it. Unfortunately, not much. That’s why I think Tropius needs a baby form! Think of how cute it would be: a smaller version with plantains instead of bananas. And we already know it’ll be cute because of Littlefoot from The Land Before Time.
16. Audino
Chansey got a lot of evolutionary love with both Blissey and Happiny. However, its Gen 5 counterpart Audino has not received the same respect. While it did get a mega evolution, it’s not nearly as good as Blissey. So why not give it a baby form? Audino is already cute with its basis in the Lolita fashion style. So my recommendation would be to lean more into that! Make it a little fluffier and even give it a cute umbrella. I think that would be positively aud-orable.
15. Tauros/Miltank
Ever since Gold and Silver, Tauros and Miltank have been connected. They have the same base stat totals, and are only male and female respectively. But Tauros is a full grown bull, and Miltank is a cow. What does their calf look like? I imagine it would be a combination of the two, with more exaggerated features depending on the gender. For example, males could be a little hairier and have 3 tails, while females are more pink and have one tail. This gives a great place for both Tauros and Miltank to come from, instead of just being born as big bovine.
14. Duraludon
Based off of the tallest building in the UK (The Shard), Duraludon is one of the coolest new Pokémon from the Sword and Shield games. But just like Stonjourner, its existence raises some questions. Did this Pokémon just start existence resembling a building? How did it get that way? I would love to see a smaller unarmored version of Duraludon. Something that’s pretty vulnerable to attackers in the wild. But if it evolves in a big city, it can evolve into this towering dragon. Although I have to say, this is a bit of a stretch. It’s not my best idea – but I would love to see a baby form for Duraludon.
13. Girafarig
Alright, time to get back on the big head train! Only this time, it’s also a big tail. Girafarig is a Pokémon with two heads – the normal one we see at the front, and the creepy black one on the back. For its baby form, I think it would be interesting to make it smaller overall. But that creepy head would remain the same size throughout its growth and take control of the whole body. While it would still evolve through level up, it essentially gets big and mature enough to control the more animalistic head. What do we call it? girafariG, of course!
12. Cryogonal
Cryogonal is another one of those Pokémon without an evolution that kind of disappeared from the public consciousness over the years. And I think giving it a baby form would be the perfect way to change that. I originally had no idea what to do with it other than “a smaller snowflake.” But then I did some research about the world’s angriest ice crystal. It’s based off of both snowflakes and a glass mirror. So my idea is to make it a compact mirror. Essentially, this would give it a clam-like shell where its face would be hiding. It could open and shut itself with the same chains it uses to hunt prey when it evolves into Cryogonal! This would be a cool way to pay tribute to both sides of Cryogonal’s designs.
11. Aerodactyl
Even though it’s not the strongest of all the fossil Pokémon, Aerodactyl is easily my favorite. It’s a terrifying predator that is almost 6 feet tall. Unfortunately, we never get to see what a baby form looks like, because we bring it back to life from the Old Amber. But that’s what this list is for. I would love to see a baby chick Aerodactyl. Making it a smaller version of Aerodactyl with wings that are too small to let it fly would tell the perfect story of a slower Pokémon that becomes one of the strongest in the game. And who knows, maybe it could also be weighed down by a head that is just a little too big for its body. Ok, I promise that this is the last time I give a Pokémon too big a head.
10. Throh/Sawk
Throh and Sawk are essentially a variation of Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee for the fifth generation, since a completely new Pokedex was created for Unova. And I think they could benefit from a baby Pokémon just like their gen 1 partners did. However, instead of basing this one on stats, I think that this could be done in a similar style to Kubfu. Since Throh and Sawk represent judo and kyokushin, respectively. It would be called Kyudan. And based on what moves you decide to teach it (throws and strikes) it’ll evolve into its respective forms. Or you could train it willy nilly and evolve it into a completely new Pokémon! This opens up a ton of opportunities, and I think it would be a great addition to the franchise.
9. Furfrou
Furfrou is a fun Pokémon with a cool gimmick where you can get it haircuts and change the way it looks. While neat in concept, it just wasn’t quite cute enough. That means that there’s only one solution: make it a baby. It’ll essentially be the exact same Pokémon, but only 9 inches tall. You can even keep the same gimmick as Furfrou. But imagine that on a toy poodle instead of a normal one. Fans would be in a frenzy over that.
8. Absol
Absol has one of my favorite designs in all of Pokémon. The black and white coloring with the cool sickle yin-yang thing is the epitome of cool. But nobody starts off cool. At some point, everyone has an awkward phase. And I think it would be adorable if we got to see Absol’s Essentially, I want to make a shaggier Absol. More fur, especially with bangs going over its eyes. Really, I want to see Absol when it was in its Nu metal phase: Jnco jeans and all.
7. Tangela
Generations 2 through 4 have introduced tons of new baby Pokémon and evolutions to old Pokémon that previously existed without an evolutionary line. For example, Magmar got Magby and Magmortar. But in the same way that Jynx was passed up for an evolution, Tangela missed out on a pre-evolution. It doesn’t even have to be anything crazy. You can keep the same shoes, but just make its body one vine. You can call it Tangular! A Tangela with a singular vine. Adorable.
6. Lapras
Lapras has been one of the most popular Pokémon ever since the first games released. It’s one of the most beautiful Pokémon of all time, and it’s pretty big at over 8 feet tall. But are they born that big? Think about how big an 8 foot egg would be. Frankly, we need to see a baby Pokémon so we don’t feel bad for all those poor Lapras mothers. Just imagine a tiny Lapras that’s a lighter blue and is using its egg shell to protect its back since its regular shell hasn’t fully grown in yet. Plus, can you think of a better Pokémon to be a parent? This needs to happen ASAP!
5. Oranguru/Passimian
Oranguru and Passimian are two sides of the same coin. One is slow and highly intelligent, while the other is fast and incredibly athletic. While they’re not technically part of the same group, they are technically connected, since they are opposing version exclusives. So why not connect them even more? Introducing Intermediape! These are apes that are at the point in their life where they need to decide where to go. If they’re trained more towards physical prowess, they become Passimian. If they’re more inclined towards special attack and defense, they become Oranguru. I genuinely think this would be a lot of fun.
4. Skarmory
Recently, Skarmory has faced a lot of competition from Corviknight. It’s also Steel/Flying, and is the final form of a 3 stage evolution. This begged the question: why doesn’t Skarmory have a baby form? The crazy thing about this one is that there’s already information about baby Skarmory. There are various Pokedex entries that state that the chicks of Skarmory wings grow hard because they nest in bramble bushes. Well why can’t I see these chicks and raise them? They can evolve by leveling up holding a Sticky Barb. All the tools are already right there!
3. Mimikyu
Mimikyu has one of the most tragic backstories of any Pokémon. Its normal appearance is so scary that anyone who has seen it has died. So for its baby form, I’d like to see it. I don’t necessarily think that Game Freak needs to design a Pokémon that is so scary that it’ll kill players. But I do have an idea on how they can execute the same effect. Ther’is a move called Perish Song that will cause all Pokémon who were on the field when the move was used, to faint in 3 turns. I think Minikyu (get it? A mini Mimikyu!) should have an ability that activates the same effect upon entering the field. Is this broken? Probably. But I feel it would be a really cool way to incorporate the Pokedex entries into actual gameplay.
2. Kangaskhan
You all knew that Kangaskhan was going to be on this list. There are countless jokes about how you’ll get a Kangaskhan egg, and when it hatches, it’ll be a Kangaskhan with a baby in its pouch. Is that another Pokémon? Or is it attached to Kangaskhan in some way? Well, we know that’s not the case. We’ve seen this mini marsupial in action as part of Kangaskhan’s mega evolution. So why not feature it as its own Pokémon? It has more than earned the right to be one after all these years. Fans have been asking for this since the original games, and Game Freak should absolutely include it. However, there is one more possibility that I am even more excited about…
1. Hawlucha
Anyone can tell you that not all wrestlers start out at the top of their game. They start out as amateurs, jobbing out to the bigger stars at the time. And I would like to see where Hawlucha started. The design can be simple: It’ll be mainly white, won’t have its mask yet, and the feathers will be smaller. It would stay in this form until it learns Hawlucha’s signature move: Flying Press. It’s the perfect story of a fresh faced amateur mastering its moves and becoming a legend. I even came up with a name: Plumancha. This is a combination of Plancha, a leaping crossbody press, and Pluma, the term for featherweight. See? Feather is already right there!
