In short: “pretentious d-bags” With a description like that, it’s no wonder that everyone hates them – hell, even hipsters hate hipsters. Non-hipsters think they’re too snobby, while actual hipsters would rather die than be identified as one. For some reason, though, creators love designing Minecraft skins inspired by this subculture. Whether it’s a form of mockery or admiration, it’s hard to tell.
1. Hipster Flannel Guy
Check Out This Skin This patterned and fuzzy piece of clothing was a favorite during the grunge era, popularized by the likes of Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder. Now instead of being worn to sing angsty songs onstage, it’s being worn by upper middle class 20-somethings as they browse secondhand bookstores and art galleries. It’s a bit of an anticlimactic end for this piece of clothing. But at least it hasn’t become one of those 90s style trends that we’re now embarrassed about – like giant JNCO pants.
2. Apocalyptic Hipster
Check Out This Skin When society collapses and there are no more arthouse films to be smug about, would there still be hipsters? It’s hard to imagine that there would be, but that didn’t stop Wynnnn from creating this Apocalyptic Hipster skin. Dressed in an ironic floral-print sweater and ripped jeans, this skin is ready for you to explore barren wastelands while musing on Wes Anderson films.
3. Girl with Beanie
Check Out This Skin It doesn’t matter if it’s in the middle of a hot summer or the most humid climate on earth. Hipsters will wear beanies no matter what. Yes, beanies are mostly itchy and uncomfortable, but that’s all worth it if it completes their outfit. Remember, it’s all about style and not comfort for hipsters.
4. Grandpa Hipster
Check Out This Skin Hipsters are mostly comprised of 20-to-30 somethings, but Jeff Goldblum has proven time and time again that you don’t need to be young to be hip. He can easily outdress any millennial hipster from Brooklyn who scours trendy thrift shops on a weekly basis. Adding to that is the fact that he’s an accomplished jazz pianist and one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors. This skin doesn’t hold a candle to Jeff Goldblum’s sense of style, but it’s the closest thing we can get to the grandpa of all hipsters.
5. Retro Girl
Check Out This Skin How many hipsters have you heard say that they were “born in the wrong generation”? It’s usually followed by something like “I would have had so much fun at Woodstock.” Honey, you might want to reconsider that. Seriously, though, this is one of the many hipster characteristics that I can understand because any time is better than the present. Get nostalgic with this retro skin by GabTheBag!
6. Bearded Hipster
Check Out This Skin Despite the fact that hipster men are typically sensitive and artistically inclined, they still feel the need to show their dominance through impractically large facial hair. Men will always be men, I guess. If you want to look like you have a dead ferret on your face, don’t miss on this Bearded Hipster skin by jeffbrady1985 – and we’ve got plenty more bearded skins to pick from if you want more ideas.
7. Hipster with Mustache
Check Out This Skin Hipsters had a deep infatuation for this form of facial hair as well. But instead of donning them for dominance, they grew them out to look quirky. I wonder how they drank their craft beers with those bushy monstrosities above their upper lip.
8. Hipster Glasses
Check Out This Skin I remember people being puzzled by the whole chunky-glasses trend when it first started. The main question everyone was asking was, “Since when was it cool to look like a total nerd?” If you look back at pop culture history, though, you’d know that it happened gradually. From Woody Allen to Rivers Cuomo and actress Zooey Deschannel, these huge glasses have always been there, ready to snap onto the heads of hipsters like the facehuggers from Alien. Now you can give in to the trend on Minecraft with this skin by TomKiora6.
9. Hipster Steve
Check Out This Skin It’s Minecraft’s very own Steve, but as a hipster. And how did GraptorLoL turn Steve into a hipster, you might ask? By slapping a beard on him. If I had a bad sense of humor, I’d say this was a lazily made skin. But I know that getting a beard is basically all you have to do, so actually I’d say this is one of the most brilliant skins on this list.
10. Coachella Girl
Check Out This Skin What many people probably don’t know is that Coachella used to be a rock-based sausage fest. The first-ever headliners back in 1999 were Beck, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine – bands that I highly doubt women who look like this skin would care about. Fortunately, more genres and genders have been welcome at the festival since then as it became more popular. Of, course, that also meant a huge growth in ticket prices. Coachella or no-chella, this skin is a must-have for hipster Minecraft players.
11. Hipster Thanos
Check Out This Skin After seeing this skin, I now want to see an episode of Marvel’s “What If…?” where Thanos discovers record collecting and becomes a full-blown hipster. I can see the episode so clearly in my head right now. Thanos snaps his fingers because he’s pissed that the Arcade Fire show he wants to go to is sold out. Thanos snaps his fingers because Pitchfork gave the new Devendra Banhart album a 9.9 instead of a 10. The possibilities are endless. Marvel, if you’re reading this, call me. I’ll write it for free.
12. Hipster Santa
Check Out This Skin In all honesty, Santa would be terrible at his job if he were a hipster. Imagine asking for the new Justin Bieber but getting Father John Misty on vinyl instead with a handwritten note saying “I like his earlier stuff better though.” No, thank you, Hipster Santa. I like my music sugary and vapid. Speaking of Father John Misty, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the inspiration for this skin by QTPAH2T.
13. Hipster Morty
Check Out This Skin So Morty has finally outgrown going on interdimensional adventures with his grandpa and has now decided to become the art director for some tech start-up. I’d be happier for him if he didn’t sport a tacky pair of orange glasses that he just leaves perched on his forehead. He even has a shirt with his younger face printed on it, maybe to commemorate the death of his younger self. Or, wait, is this a Morty from a different reality? Creator 000jonny0 has some explaining to do.
14. Derp Hipster
Check Out This Skin I didn’t know a lot of hipsters back in the day. But the ones that I knew always turned their nose up at 9gag-era memes. It was too low-brow for them, I guess. Who knew that meme-elitism was a thing? Don’t let that bother you though. This Derp Hipster skin by creator Sendar123 should keep you smiling long enough to forget why you were upset in the first place.
15. Starbucks Hipster Barista
Check Out This Skin I’m willing to bet my left lung that your local Starbucks has at least one barista who’s working on a screenplay, novel, or alternative folk record. Being a barista is the perfect job for hipsters, because it gives them the opportunity to be condescending while getting paid. When you see someone wearing this skin on Minecraft, try not to order anything with whipped cream – unless you want to get your ass whipped.
16. Julian Casablancas
Check Out This Skin From here on out, we’re going through some of the most famous hipster icons in the world, starting with The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. His perpetually messy hair and don’t-give-a-damn fashion sense made him the one to emulate for many hipsters in training. Now with his new-ish band The Voidz, he’s going for a more post-apocalyptic vibe as perfectly recreated in this skin. It may be too “out there” for some, but I say the weirder the better.
17. Anthony Fantano
Check Out This Skin I highly doubt that Anthony Fantano identifies as a hipster. But he certainly can’t deny that his YouTube channel, The Needle Drop, raised a generation of music snobs. Every hipster who endlessly talks about Death Grips and Kendrick Lamar most probably got their opinions from this Melon Man right here. He continues to be the internet’s busiest music nerd, but let’s see how good he is at mining.
18. Alex Turner
Check Out This Skin If you were around to witness the indie rock boom of the mid 2000’s, then you most certainly have vivid memories of watching the Arctic Monkeys’ music video for “Cornerstone.” Even though it’s just vocalist Alex Turner singing and messing around with a tape recorder, it still left an expression because of its overall playfulness. Many fans (me included) felt a bit disappointed by his f*ckboy transformation in AM, but at least we have this skin based on “Cornerstone” to look back to.
19. Margot Tenenbaum
Check Out This Skin Margot Tenenbaum is the fictional hipster icon that many try (and fail) to copy. She’s a talented young playwright, a smoker since the age of 12, and an unparalleled dresser. Everything about her is just cheff’s kiss. If you saw The Royal Tenenbaums and thought “I want to be like her,” forget about it. Just get this Minecraft skin instead, because that’s the closest you’ll ever get.
20. Scott Pilgrim
Check Out This Skin Not gonna lie, I used to have the biggest crush on Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim. But now that I’m in my 20’s, I get a shiver down my spine whenever I remember that his girlfriend in the movie, Knives Chau, was 17. I still wish Sex Bob-Omb was a real band though.
