And since Eren is probably going to become a god in said season, this is our last opportunity to rank his strength without going into hacks characters. So let’s take a look at some anime characters that could probably defeat Eren (up to the first part of season 4). I will try not to include anything too obvious, like Saitama or Goku, since fantasy battles are way more fun when it’s a close call.
15. Diane
Anime: The Seven Deadly Sins I want to start off with this titan battle, as it would thematically be the most interesting. Although Diane is smaller than Eren, by about 6 meters according to the data books, this is far from an easy fight. Just like Eren can use Hardening, Diane can coat her entire body with metal. So they’re comparable in terms of durability. However, Diane still has a weapon – and the ability to control the earth. And this ability gets pretty powerful late in the game, being able to affect the ground from miles around. You could argue that Eren can null these disadvantages with his Warhammer. But he isn’t even close to mastering those abilities yet. Plus, Diane is a lot more experienced when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, being that she’s literally over 700 years old and Eren’s precognition isn’t coming into play yet.
14. Zenitsu Agatsuma
Anime: Demon Slayer This one requires a lot of head-cannon – namely that Zenitsu is passed out immediately. The crux of this plan is pure speed, and banking on the fact that Zenitsu can cut Eren’s nape before he can activate his hardening. Eren’s transformation is extremely quick, being able to form a skeleton before a cannon-ball reached him. But Zenitsu is arguably much faster than that. Plus, he’s already aware that he has to go for the neck in order to achieve victory. So if Zenitsu does manage to outpace Eren’s transformation, he wins. If not, he’ll be missed.
13. Genos
Anime: One Punch Man Although Genos gets meme’d a lot because of how frequently he loses, I do think he has a very decent chance here. By the end of season 2 we’ve seen that his movement speed has become ridiculous, as well as his raw destructive power. In his fight with the Giant Centipede, we saw that he knows how to handle larger opponents, as well as his ability to bring up blades from his hands and start chopping. One could argue that he couldn’t get through the hardening. But I think his lasers are more than equipped for it, as they’re easily “mountain level” of destructive. Fingers crossed for my boy though, as Eren will swat him like a fly if he manages to catch up.
12. Naruto Uzumaki
Anime: Naruto That’s right. I think that even kid Naruto could handle the likes of Eren. One of the reasons is the fact that Gamabunta is nearly double the height of Eren, according to the Internet. So the size battle has already been lost. On top of that, Naruto can just send out shadow clones to force Eren’s hand, and then use a rasengan in order to get through the hardening. And all of this is without any Kurama amps! We already saw ninja-infant Naruto take on a half-transformed Gaara, so this isn’t even new territory for him.
11. Kai Chisaki
Anime: My Hero Academia This would be far from an easy victory, but still a possible one. The main factor that determines the outcome of this fight is how quickly Overhaul can touch Eren (or any other living thing for that matter) without getting squished. The second he does, he can destroy an entire section of the main body, and basically build a meat mech to minimize the size difference. I doubt Hardening would get in Overhaul’s way in the slightest. And if he ever manages to just tap Eren’s neck, it’s gg. Overhaul isn’t really the most mobile and quick character in the series. However, his ability to heal entire limbs does mean that he could get quite a few chances before he’s stomped out.
10. Tanya Degurenchaff
Anime: Saga of Tanya the Evil This fight would basically play out like that one time Saitama tried to sway a fly in his room. Not only is Tanya small, but she can also fly, rapidly speed up, change directions, and juke. Being that she has spent so much time on literal battlefields, there’s no way Eren is going to outsmart her and land a hit while she’s in the air. On the other hand, Tanya can just pelt Eren from a safe distance like there’s no tomorrow. Eren still hasn’t quite mastered defensive Hardening – and Tanya’s shots are going to do a lot more damage than those middle-age guns used in the show. So she could get some serious hits in. If everything else fails, she can blow herself up while attached to his nape, since she did seem to survive the ordeal last time.
9. Charmy Pappitson
Anime: Black Clover A fully-powered Charmy is just a way stronger Jaw Titan. Her wolf spirit is capable of eating anything that comes its way. And since it’s significantly bigger than Charmy, I think it’s safe to say that it can wrap its mouth around Eren’s neck. On top of that, Charmy can spawn sheep shoulders to both soak up damage and distract Eren while the wolf gets into position. Lastly, Charmy herself is pretty strong, and won’t be taken out if caught without her adds. She has incredible mobility, protection, and an effective offense, which is why I do think she could clutch this one.
8. Aladdin
Anime: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic Although it doesn’t look like it initially, this is another titan fight. You see, late-game Aladdin is capable of summoning not one, but three giant sand titans to fight at his side. Considering a soldier barely reaches to their ankles, I think it’s safe to say that they’re comparable to Eren when it comes to size. However, they can also spew fire out of their mouths at an intense distance – easily melting a limb or two. Plus Aladdin is still free to cast spells on top of that, creating barriers or attacking Eren’s eyes to put him at a disadvantage.
7. Ryuko Matoi
Anime: Kill la Kill! This fight would fit right in with Attack on Titan. Minus all the fan service. In terms of mobility, Ryuuko is easily comparable to Levi or Mikasa, darting around the battlefield at immense speeds. However, she’s far more durable and far more powerful. Her scissor has been stated to be able to cut through anything – meaning that one solid strike at the nape is all Ryuuko needs to secure victory. Plus she can fly, making it severely easier to dodge Eren’s attacks and get into position.
6. Kurapika
Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011) For this one to work, we have to image that Kurapika’s Nen restriction is focused exclusively towards Eren. Once that has been established, Eren is kind of screwed. To prove this we just have to watch Kurapika’s fight with Uvogin. The dude tanked missiles and created craters with each punch – and yet he couldn’t break Kurapika’s chains, nor resist his attack. Plus with his Scarlet eyes, Kurapika gets buffed by enchantment and move extremely quickly, easily outpacing someone like Eren. From there, it’s only a matter of wrapping the chains around Eren’s neck and lobbing the entire thing off.
5. Katsuki Bakugou
Anime: My Hero Academia In terms of mobility, Katsuki even blows people like Levi out of the water. Being that he doesn’t rely on any gear, nor does he need any structures, he could make laps around Eren if he got serious. Furthermore, he has enough explosive power to blow up several buildings, meaning he could do quite a number on any part of Eren’s body that’s not hardened. And as we’ve seen in the training camp arc, he can also spam huge explosions quite a bit (given he creates enough sweat). Seeing a titan would definitely get me sweeting.
4. Mo-Ri Jin
Anime: The God of High School Considering this anime is all about martial arts, you would probably think that Jin has no business being in a monster battle. But nope, in the very last episodes of the season we see that Jin is actually quite the monster hunter. He can change the size of his staff at will, granting him some insane mobility as well as some serious striking power. This is one of the only matchups where Eren wouldn’t be cut in the nape – but rather completely crushed by a giant stick. And there’s no way Eren is getting a hit on full-power Jin, as that dude is way too mobile.
3. Akame
Anime: Akame ga Kill! When at full power, Akame is an absolute nightmare. In terms of defense she’s beyond quick. How quick, you might ask? She somehow outran frozen time. So Eren’s clumsy self is not getting any clean hits in. What about her attack though? Well she just needs to make a single cut, and a curse just kind of sucks out your soul. Titan skin is tough. But it is penetrable by a good sword. And I sincerely doubt Eren would have the foresight or skill to wrap his entire body in hardening at this point in the story. Even if he could immediately rip off the affected limb and stop the curse, it would still only be a matter of time before he slipped up.
2. Kazuto Kirigaya
Anime: Sword Art Online It’s rather poetic that the protagonist of the worst popular show can beat the protagonist of the best popular show. Kirito is a swordsman before anything else. And that already gives him quite the advantage against Eren, as he can easily slice his nape open. Furthermore, in the eyes of Kirito, Eren is just another world boss he has to conquer. So I doubt he would get all that shaken up about the fight. He knows how to dodge giant mobs, and he has more than enough mobility to do so. What can I say – power scaling isn’t always fair.
1. Simon
Anime: Gurren Lagann I want to end with this pick, as I think it would be the most epic fight of all from this list. Just imagine a battle between Eren and a mech of the same size! I say “of the same size” as technically Simon can just upscale until he’s universe level, literally. But while the same size, the battle would be quite interesting – as I think they would be pretty evenly matched at hand-to-hand combat. However, Simon’s drill would be a big problem for Eren. It can pierce just about anything. Even Simon’s own mini-mech can theoretically just hop off the main body and drill into his neck if he wants to do things the non-PG way. It would be quite the fight though.
