Stands are just inherently more interesting than vampire powers and bladed throwing hats. The question now is, how do Stands compare in power with the rest of the anime universe? Or to be more precise, which characters could beat Jotaro and give him a taste of that ora ora life? And of course, for this ranking I won’t be going for obvious choices like Saitama and Goku. So with that in mind, let’s begin!
12. Shouto Todoroki
Anime: My Hero Academia The main thing you have to watch out for when facing Jotaro is his melee burst. Like if he manages to get close to you, you just lose. And that remains true for most characters in My Hero Academia. So, what makes Todoroki different? Well, it’s quite simple really: long range AoE. We’ve seen in the show that Todoroki can easily cover an entire stadium in ice, and can also emit enough heat to basically cause an explosion. And although Jotaro could break out of the ice, I just don’t think he could tank multiple heat blasts, let alone manage to get up close to Todoroki.
11. Uvogin
Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011) “Range diff” is going to be a common argument in this list as it is Jotaro’s main weakness. But for the sake of some fun, let’s put him up against a melee character. Uvogin doesn’t have any special power or hacks ability, but he is absolutely insane when it comes to strength and tenacity. The guy can just tank bazookas without flinching. And even in terms of speed, he’s somewhat comparable to Jotaro, as they can both catch bullets with no issue. But Uvogin just out-tanks Jotaro by a mile. It’s also worth mentioning that Uvogin creates craters with his punches – and Jotaro hasn’t really tanked anything like that before, so it would be over quickly.
10. Julius Novachrono
Anime: Black Clover Just because I haven’t mentioned it yet, doesn’t mean I’m ignoring Jotaro’s time-stopping ability. It just made little difference in the previous two picks. And I mean, it has a timer and a limited range in terms of actually doing some damage. If you want to look at real time magic, look at my boy Julius. Not only can he stop time – but he can also reverse it or change the speed at which things happen. And if he really pushes it, his magic can cover an entire country. So, unless Jotaro somehow sneak-attacks Julius (which I doubt he would ever do) Jotaro gets stomped by the superior time god.
9. Diane
Anime: The Seven Deadly Sins I was originally going to go with Meliodas or Ban, but that seemed too easy. Jotaro just isn’t great when it comes to dealing with giant enemies, unless they eat him for some reason. And this is because he has no AoE whatsoever. Plus, Jotaro can barely even reach Diane’s face. Since she’s around 9-10 m tall and Jotaro’s Stand has a range of 10m, Jotaro would literally have to stand right in front of her in order to get a clean hit in. And that’s somewhat a problem when you realize that Diane is a major tank that can turn her skin into metal, as well as the fact that if you’re that close, she can just kick you into the neighboring village.
8. Minato Namikaze
Anime: Naruto: Shippuden When talking about Jotaro, speed has always been the most important metric. Because not only can he stop time, but he can also catch bullets point blank. However, Minato is the only character that comes to mind that could blitz Jotaro without going into god territory. We’ve seen that Minato’s teleportation ability makes him extremely deadly. And that Minato can react within a fraction of a second in order to reposition himself. But why is that important against a dude that can stop time? Because he can just leave his marks all over and then blink out whenever Jotaro goes to activate The World. By the time Jotaro reaches Minato, the timer will run out, and Minato can go in for the kill – in a similar fashion as to what he did against Obito.
7. Aladdin
Anime: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic Aladdin just has all those tools that Jotaro despises. He can put up shields in order to prevent Jotaro from one-shotting him in frozen time. He has ranged spells and can just keep Jotaro at a distance where he can retaliate. And most importantly, he can just create sand soldiers to fight on his behalf. Not only are these soldiers extremely powerful, as they can shoot immense fire beams from their mouth, but they also allow Aladdin to just chill in the background. Even a brilliant tactician like Jotaro can’t really get himself out of a situation where he’s just hard-countered like this.
6. Satoru Gojou
Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen I’m honestly just really intrigued as how this would work. You see, anything coming near Gojou is affected by Limitless, his ability to shift time. So when going in to punch him, your hand will basically look like its frozen a few millimeters away from his body. Would that also apply in frozen time? Who knows! However, we also have to keep in mind that if Gojou is close enough to be punched by Jotaro, Jotaro is close enough to be affected by Gojou’s domain expansion. And yeah, I do think it’s just gg after that point. And if we disregard their abilities altogether, I think Gojou would still win – but it would be quite a fight to watch.
5. Giorno Giovanna
Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind I want to throw this one into the mix, as I occasionally see people low-balling Giorno and stating how The World is stronger than Golden Experience Requiem. But in reality, GER is in a whole different league when it comes to hacks abilities. Sure, stopping time is powerful and all that. But GER can basically control the cause and effect chain, reset the timeline, and banish you to what is basically Purgatory. If a Stand can send your soul into an endless cycle of death without breaking a sweat, do you really think that a limited pause button is going to affected? Especially since even if Jotaro somehow did get a hit in, GER can just say “nah” and reverse the punch so that it never happened!
4. Ken Kaneki
Anime: Tokyo Ghoul The reasoning behind this one is definitely a bit out there. But let’s get the base stats out of the way first: Kaneki is not the fastest fellow out there; he managed to hold his own against a powered-up Juuzou who was blinking all over the place, but I still think Jotarou could out-pace him. In terms of strength and destructive power, I think they’re on the same playing field. However, what gives Kaneki the edge is the fact that he is insane. By that I mean you could literally tear off all his limbs and he’ll still manage to stab you through the stomach if he’s desperate enough. I just don’t think Jotaro could handle someone so insanely tenacious that he would literally have to squeeze his brains out in order to win. And that’s not even mentioning the centipede trap-card that Kaneki has.
3. Pain
Anime: Naruto: Shippuden Needless to say, this fight would be hype as hell. I can’t even say that it would be a stomp, as I’m confident Jotaro would figure out how the Paths of Pain functioned relatively quickly. However, I do think he would be overwhelmed. With all the Paths having shared vision, plus the summons, and their differing abilities, it would be impossible for Jotaro to take them all on at once. Even with frozen time, he could probably only take out one at a time. And if he chooses incorrectly and doesn’t kill off the Naraka path, whoever he took down will just get revived. Plus, he’s going up against city destroying power levels, so it would only be a matter of time.
2. Akame
Anime: Akame ga Kill! Remember how in Jotaro’s fight with Dio, he kept freaking him out with the prospect that he could move in frozen time? Well, that’s what this battle would boil down to as well. And that’s not even head canon, as Akame has literally managed to leave an after-image in frozen time already. How that works, who knows. But the point is that this little trick can easily grant her victory, being that even a single cut from her sword would immediately kill of Jotaro with its curse. If Jotaro knew about her ability beforehand, the battle might go a bit differently. But even then, Akame’s win condition is pretty easy to obtain.
1. Garou
Anime: One Punch Man I will put Garou at number 1 here, as this is the battle I want to see the most. Stats-wise, I think the two are very similar. They’re both melee fighters that excel at attacking their enemies with a flurry of quickly timed punches. They’re also both great tacticians that learn throughout the battle and change their approach in order to secure a victory. However, that last quality is way more present with Garou than it is with Jotaro. Sure, Jotaro will get into your head and predict simple strategies. But Garou can completely mimic your style of fighting and use it against you. He also has insane durability, as he’s capable of taking on waves of opponents despite being severely injured. It would be a close battle, and an insane one. But at the end of the day I’m betting on Garou.
