And of course, there’s also the fact that some animals are just scary AF. And if we need animals to have a balanced ecosystem in the human world, then Minecraft also needs them. Because honestly, it’s tiring just seeing pixelated human faces all the time. Whether friend or foe, that animal variety is one of the things that makes Minecraft such an immersive world to play in. So in honor of our furry friends here are some free mods that let you go wild (pun very much intended) on wildlife.
10. Fossils and Archeology Revival
Check Out This Mod If I’m to guess, extinct animals offer the same charm as ruins do to our contemporary life: it gives us an idea of what life was back then for everyday people who might have been like us. But of course, since this is Minecraft we’re talking about you actually have the option of resurrecting history’s “dead” animals! The Fossils and Archaeology Revival mod incorporates the real-world (or at least an approximation of it) skeletal structures, DNA, and the tools used for deciphering what kind of dinosaur you’re attempting to rebuild. Best of all no one would blast you for being an unethical scientist. Because hey, chaos is just a normal part of gaming life.
9. Crocoducks
Check Out This Mod What is a “crocoduck” you ask? Well it’s a modder’s attempt at creating a crocodile-and-duck hybrid. And just like its real-life animal counterparts, the crocoduck attacks anyone in sight except for what is probably its closest evolutionary cousin, the chicken. Because if Untitled Goose Game has taught us anything, it’s that all aquatic birds are big honking jerks. That is the lesson to take away, right?
8. Quintessential Creatures
Check Out This Mod Even I have no idea what makes this mod so “quintessential”. Is it because adventures need to feature at least one turtle and tentacled creature? Hey let’s just run with that. If anything, at least one thing is certain with this mod: after downloading this pack it’s impossible to have a Minecraft playthrough without any of these animals in the environment.
7. More Nature
Check Out This Mod Not every animal in Minecraft is something you have to kill. Just like in real life, they’re there to add beauty to the world! Now is there anything more noble than that? The More Nature mod features some “definitely-not-mobs”creatures in Minecraft like crickets, centipedes, lizards, fishes, whales, and all the other species that won’t definitely threaten you. On the other hand, this is probably a good reason you can start experimenting with your take on a nature sanctuary.
6. Mystical World
Check Out This Mod You gotta love these mods for practicing some great branding. Like the Quintessential Creatures mod, I also have no idea why the modder behind Mystical World chose the name. Not that I’m complaining, it’s pretty dope. And if you’re looking for more animal variety then this mod is a must-download! Expect foxes and deer with this mod pack, as well as sprouts and silkworm. I guess this is a mod for anyone wanting to play through some Arthurian-slash-medieval legends? Hey, if it works, it works!
5. Animal Crops
Check Out This Mod If people breed plants and animals for consumption, then why not mobs? If only for the purpose that we get to attack something when we’re bored. The Animal Crops mod offers the next best thing to fighting animals: by literally throwing seeds on grass and watching them grow! Surely you can’t tell me that this modder just created a PG way to showcase breeding by omitting the… err, birds-and-the-bees stuff.
4. Inventory Pets
Check Out This Mod Wait, you mean Minecraft has its Pokemon clones too? Well not exactly: for one, you can’t pit your creatures to fight against each other to be the very best that no one ever was (yes, I just went there). What the Inventory Pets mod offer is something that is just as better: you get gameplay perks like movement boosts, climbing, flight, and all those other crafting bonuses. By simply assigning a “pet” in your hotbar, you get to have that mob’s ability.
3. Animania
Check Out This Mod What is better than seeing more animals in your gameplay? Well how about seeing–drum roll, please–MORE animals?! With the option of adding new and various animal breeds, species, and even create specific behaviors for each, the Animania mod improves upon the passive creatures in your Minecraft world by involving you in how they grow and act.
2. Craftable Animals
Check Out This Mod Along with animals it’s only natural that you’ll want to have an even easier way to create mobs, right? The Craftable Animals mod lets you make the entire mobs species from Minecraft by simply shooting an arrow and seeing these creatures grow. With this mod’s minimizer tool players also have the option of enlarging or shrinking animals. Pretty cool right? I guess just in case you miss tinkering with “big head” mode back in those old ‘90s games.
1. LotsOMobs
Check Out This Mod So we’ve made it to #1 on the list and I have to say, this is the mob for players who want to experience everything. With 25 new mobs to add upon the base game including different species for birds, fishes, mammals, and even stone-age creatures, each one gives out unique drops whenever they get attacked. The kicker? You get to ride each animal you encounter in the world! Hey if you want to be king or queen of the world, you better act like it. Hopefully this list satiates your thirst for animal-focused mods but if you’re ever looking for more there’s a treasure trove out there in Google. Just have to know where to find ‘em!
