Because his feats vary drastically depending on who he’s facing. So it could be fun to look into some anime characters that he’d likely lose to – even at his strongest – and consider some scenarios of how these fights might play out. So let’s get into it!
10. Asta
Anime: Black Clover This battle heavily depends on the fact that Asta uses anti-magic, which shouldn’t in theory act in the same way as chakra. In other words, Samehada should not be able to absorb any of Asta’s magic/strength. The opposite cannot be said, though. Since everything Kisame does very clearly falls under the category of magic, and would therefore be yeeted out of existence with a single sword swipe. And since Kisame relies on his water jutsus quite a bit, this would severely nerf his battle prowess. When it comes to raw fighting power, I think these two are pretty similar in terms of strength, speed, and tenacity – leaving the difference in “magic” as the deciding factor. It would be a close call, but I think Asta has it in the bag.
9. Tohru
Anime: Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid I know this sounds really stupid – but it makes perfect sense if you’ve watched the show. Tohru is just straight-up a powerhouse above even Bijuu. And I don’t think Kisame could handle it. Sure, Bijuu bombs can wipe out a mountain. But Tohru’s blasts need to be under a barrier so she doesn’t blow up the entire planet. Plus, despite her appearance, she’s quite the stacked warrior as well. We’ve seen her take tons of damage without slowing down. Plus we’ve seen her zip around at unimaginable speeds and use tons of magic without needing a break. So I don’t think Kisame could survive long enough to actually drain her massive energy pool.
8. Gray Fullbuster
Anime: Fairy Tail This matchup is somewhat of a stretch, but it makes complete sense if we go by a similar logic like Pokémon type advantages. You don’t have to be a genius to see how ice counters water. And seeing how most of Kisame’s heavy-hitting attacks are ninjitsu based, I think Gray can catch him off guard and freeze him. Plus, they aren’t as different in terms of stats as one could think. We’ve seen Gray’s punches create small explosions on impact. And seeing how he can tank Natsu, who’s arguably Bijuu level when angry, I think their endurance is pretty similar as well. I do think Kisame wins in terms of speed. But that feels like a less important advantage than an ability type, so I have to give it to Gray overall.
7. Yūichirō Hyakuya
Anime: Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign Here’s a fight that might teach you some chemistry! So, Kisame is all about water, that much we have already covered. But what about Yuuichirou? Well, he’s the salt king! And if you remember what you learned in high school, a liter of water can dissolve between 350 and 390 grams of salt, depending on the temperature. This isn’t good news for Kisame. Because we’ve seen Yuuichirou summon entire mountains of salt in order to attack his enemies. Odds are that Kisame could not dissolve all of it on time. And since we’ve seen enemies turn to piles of salt after being touched by Yuuichirou’s attacks, it’s safe to say it can be pretty lethal. Or he could just stab Kisame with his spear and literally rub salt in his wounds.
6. Ainz Ooal Gown
Anime: Overlord Kisame is really strong. But he’s also somewhat predictable, since his water release jutsus are pretty much his one and only method of attack. Ainz. on the other hand, can hit you with an entire encyclopedia of different magic attacks & traps. On the most fundamental level, this means he can also opt for water magic and just use Kisame’s powers against him. Or use electricity and zap his fishy enemy when he least expects it. But even aside from all that, he can just spam summons and overwhelm him. And since this is Ainz we’re talking about, there’s no way in hell that Kisame would ever be able to sap all of his energy – that would likely take an entire day of work.
5. Tatsumaki
Anime: One Punch Man Kisame is the type of ninja that likes to get all up in your business, as Samehada whispers sweet nothings into your ear and saps all of your chakra. But tough luck ever achieving that when going against Tatsumaki. The most obvious tactic here is Tatsumaki flying away. But there’s honestly very little stopping her from just yeeting Kisame into the Sun. Sure, he can breathe underwater, but can he breathe in space? All ninjitsu attacks would be rather pointless, as she can throw them away or put up a barrier. And since Tatsumaki has extremely long range, there would never be a situation where she would actually allow Kisame to get close enough to use Samehada.
4. Sinbad
Anime: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic Sinbad is arguably the most irritating dude to face. He has an answer to almost any attack. And he has multiple abilities that would leave Kisame with a pretty bad time in this fight. With his Zepar Djinn Equip, he could arguably command Samehada to turn against Kisame, or even put Kisame himself into a deep trance. If that doesn’t work, he can use his Valefor Djinn Equip to slow down Kisame’s senses, as well as manipulate his water spells and turn them into ice. Once that’s done, he could just use Baal’s mountain level destruction spells to zap Kisame out of existence. Or he could use Zepar to blow him into space. You get the picture – the dude has a lot of options.
3. Pack
Anime: Re: ZERO If you really think about it, Pack is basically a Tailed Beast. In fact, I’d be willing to wager that he’s the most powerful one there is in the series – as we’ve seen his ability to basically end the world when he went berserk. His ice covered almost everything, and his attacks are quick enough to behead an enemy a mile away in the blink of an eye. Plus, we once again run into the argument of “ice beats water all the way”. Pack didn’t go berserk for long. But considering the person who ended up stopping Pack was a literal hax pro (and that no one else even got close), I think Pack is a bit above Kisame’a pay grade.
2. Rimuru Tempest
Anime: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Rimuru vs Kisame. This could be the most hilarious scenario on this list – and that’s why I have to talk about it. So, imagine Kisame immediately lays down his water dome of destruction and prepares to go in for the kill. However, Rimuru at that moment reverts to their slime state, and quickly expands to cover the entire dome. Kisame has just been Uno reverse card-ed and is caught off guard. Rimuru then takes their time and slowly devours Kisame like a Lunchable, and everyone lives happily ever after. Or Rimuru could just beat him the old fashioned way, since there are very few characters in this world that are nearly as haxed as Rimuru.
1. Ban
Anime: The Seven Deadly Sins I wanted to end this list off with Ban – as he’s the best mirror of Kisame. Both are durable melee fighters who slowly sap their enemy’s energy. So this battle would be quite the interesting watch! However, post-Hell Ban would have it in the bag if you ask me. His durability is completely off the charts after spending a few millennium being in constant anguish. And his steal ability has a much larger range than Samehada, so he could steal Kisame’s power at a safe distance. When it comes to raw strength and speed, I would lean slightly towards Ban, but I don’t think the gap is that big. Overall, this fight would last quite a while. But because of his slightly higher stats and larger power-sap range, Ban would win it in the end.
