The series that reeled us in with a few bad seasons, stabbed us in the eye with a PowerPoint presentation season, and fished it all off with a meh season. However, it did achieve one thing: Giving us an MC that we can put into hypothetical battles, because fantasy football is so last season. So let’s see which anime characters could likely take down Meliodas.
10. Rimuru Tempest
Anime: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Although Meliodas is powerful, he’s also rather simple. The only thing you have to look out for (aside from his fists) is his counterstrike ability. Rimuru on the other hand has an expansive arsenal with dozens of different abilities. But that alone wouldn’t be important, if they were not of a similar power level. And if Rimuru didn’t know how to utilize this advantage. Unfortunately for Meliodas, both of these conditions are met. And Rimuru is not only capable of destroying entire armies in a single swoop – but she also has an ability that analyses her opponent and gives her the optimal strategy for defeating them. She can even allow this Sage ability to take over, so she can beat Meliodas while being AFK.
9. Isaac Netero
Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011) Meliodas is pretty fast, but nowhere near fast enough to keep up with this old man. The moment Netero summons his Bodhisattva statue, it’s gg for Meliodas. And that just comes down to a huge difference in speed, as Netero could hit Meliodas dozens of times before Meliodas could even react. In fact, I doubt he would even get the chance to launch his counterstrike ability before just getting punched to death. And even if he did, the Bodhisattva is also capable of firing a huge, highly concentrated blast from its mouth that would likely overpower the counterstrike and just fry Meliodas up. But even if he high balls Meliodas and let’s say that none of that works… well let’s just say that Netero has his ways of securing at least a draw.
8. Ryou Asuke
Anime: Devilman: Crybaby Spoiler alerts here: In this fight of the demonic, Meliodas is kind of outclassed. Even though Ryou isn’t a trained fighter like Meliodas, nor does he have some overpowered combat abilities, he still beats out Meliodas in terms of stats. The entire planet had to be destroyed to bring Satan down – and even that was first preceded by a fight against the rest of demon kind. Ryou was literally going into battle against the entire world and still won! Compared to Meliodas who required aid from his friends at almost every turn, it’s safe so say who would get the top bunk in Hell.
7. Sinbad
Anime: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic Just like Rimuru, Sinbad has a very big bag of tricks and can counter most opponents. In fact, he doesn’t even know half of the things he can do, and he’s already god-tier. And this means that Meliodas will have a very hard time keeping up, as he could be attacked by ice one moment, and then thrown into a tornado the next. And it’s not like the powers are weak on their own and rely on combos either. No, each could destroy a mountain or an island on its own. So combining multiple different large-scale powerful attacks just spells out certain doom for Meliodas.
6. Satoru Gojou
Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen One would think that counterstrike is like the ultimate defensive ability, as you can just bounce back whatever’s thrown your way. However, that’s not the case. The ultimate defensive ability is Gojou’s limitless – as it can literally put an infinity between your skin and the enemy’s fist. And as I’ve stated, punching is the only real thing Meliodas knows to do. So what, a draw? Also unlikely, as Gojou is a pro at hand-to-hand combat, and can also use his Purple ability to create spheres that disintegrate anything in their path. I don’t know whether demons can be exorcised or not. But Meliodas is definitely not getting out of that battle happy or alive.
5. Saitama
Anime: One Punch Man If you really think about it, the best way to counter-counterstrike is to just one-shot your enemy. Now, that’s easier said than done when talking about Meliodas. He’s surprisingly tanky for such a small guy, but Meliodas is definitely up for the task. I mean, if you can jump from the Moon to Earth without a scratch and still split mountain ranges from the air current you emit from your punch… well, then tanks don’t really exist. Comparing those fits to Meliodas (whose performance usually stands around mountain destroying level) gives us a clear victor.
4. Alluka Zoldyck
Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011) The main driving force for Meliodas throughout the show is the curse that affects him and Elizabeth. Even once he gained Demon King abilities, the curse placed on Elizabeth could not be done away with completely. This means Meliodas can be affected by curses, and that he can’t just shrug them off. Well, Alluka is kind of overpowered because she can grant any curses imaginable (and often). And then just kill off Meliodas if someone asked for it. True, half of the planet would die as ramification, as it’s always a give and take with curses. But it’s very much doable.
3. Anos Voldigoad
Anime: The Misfit of Demon King Academy Man, Meliodas is lucky that Demon Kings are not as strong in his universe as they are in Demon King Academy. Because his father would have spanked him like the naughty boy that he is. Anos is basically a god of unrivalled power that can defeat his opponents in the most hilariously imaginative ways possible. My person favorite was when he made someone nearly lose their mind simply by existing, as Anos’ heart pumped so loudly that it got into the enemy’s head. Anos can pretty much pick up a stick and go to town, so Demon Kings are getting the W this time around. It rhymes, so you know it’s true.
2. Naruto Uzumaki
Anime: Naruto: Shippuden Am I just putting Naruto on here because he’s overpowered and popular? Maybe. But there’s also a strategic reason as to why he beats Meliodas. You see, Naruto’s clones kind of completely counted Meliodas, as Naruto can just kinda chill in the back row while his clones spam rasengans. Even if Meliodas does a counterstrike, he’s unlikely to hit the real Naruto, and would therefore just tire himself out eventually. I’m aware that Meliodas can also create clones – but they’re extremely mediocre, especially compared to Naruto standards.
1. Giorno Giovanna
Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind I wanted to end with Giorno, as he could give Meliodas the worst defeat imaginable. Throughout the entire series, Meliodas has seen Elizabeth die time and time again, in an endless cycle of sorrow. And once Giorno got Golden Experience Requiem, he became the king of endless cycles of sorrow. He could make Meliodas relive that pain infinitely, or spice it up and make Meliodas the one who has to die. I bet that would be quite the shock considering Meliodas was immortal for a majority of the show. And the thing is that Giorno’s victory is certain, because even if he lost, he could just return everything to zero and make it so that he won. Hacks abilities are truly something.
